As a new member I would like to say hello to everyone on this forum. I hope someone can answer my question. I have a mid 90's Amana top loading washer. I just replaced the seal and I noticed that there is grease on the bottom of the drive bell. I would like to put fresh grease on it but do not know what type of grease it is. Is it something special or would lithium grease work? Thank you.

Welcome Ellaina,

There shouldn't be any grease on the belt.  I had a '97 Amana and it went through three belts in ten years.  It's probably best to replace the belt and make sure that the pulleys are free of grease before installing the new one.  Others here can advise on a possible source of the grease.

Grease

I don't think it's coming from the transmission because the top of the hub was dry. I called some local repair shops and one of them found a part number for the grease. It's special order but they can get it. It will be so nice to be able to wash clothes at home again. Thanks to everyone who responded to my question.
