Miele 1918/1515 Questions for the Mielese

OK, all you Miele-heads, "stuff" has been building up at home and I need to get your input. The washer is a 1918 and the dryer is a 1515, a matched pair.

1) How long does an average size load of average/heavy cottons (t-shirts, underwear, socks, towels) take to dry after being spun out at 1200 rpms or greater in the Cottons cycle? On mine, it takes about an hour. If I use the rapid option, I bottleneck. I don't see why after having a great extract it should take this long. As to the dryer itself, the loads placed therein only get mildly warm, never hot. I'm almost thinking that part of the heating element is not working. Exhaust air flow is good and strong, nothing wrong with the fan or the ducting (1 right 90 degree turn out of the machine and 2 feet to outside). Or is this timing and very low temperature "normal". I am getting more and more annoyed at this.

2) Anyone have problems with cold filling outside the final rinse? Suddenly, on the wash and first 3 rinses, my cold water is coming in at a trickle, often causing the slow fill LED to start blinking. On the final rinse, water pressure is fine and strong. Filter screens at both ends of the hose and in the valve are clear. Valve going bad? Something wrong with whatever the dispensing compartment water diverter mechanism is?

3) Anyone have a hot electrical converter box? The other day, washing a load at 140, there was a hot electrical/ozone smell in the air. I traced it to the converter box. The fuse at the far right is hot and untouchable. Since it was nearly 1am, I didn't get into pulling out the fuses and checking each one -- will do so tonight.

Sorry, cannot help you with regard to the dryer, as don't own a Miele.

On the final rinse, My Miele, and am pretty sure others as well sends water down both the prewash and wash parts of the dispenser (both fill ports open), as well as down the fabric softener dispenser. This causes the FS to fill with water and overflow, which in turn activates the siphon which dispenses the contents. Our water pressure is quite strong, but am somewhat sure water seems more forceful at the final rinse, and the above reason is why.

Electrical:

Assuming you are running the washer on a dedicated 20amp or 15 amp circut. Still, pulling over 2000 watts of power for however long it takes to heat water is probably going to create some heat at the electrical connections/fuses. To be on the safe side, give Miele tech support a call and find out if your query is normal. Or, speak to your electric guy. We don't want you to burn down the house or anything.

Well, I am a big Miele head

I would have to start by saying I love my machines, and have not had any trouble with them.Having said that, they are a little different than what most would be accostmed to.
First, the dryer does not dry at the same temp as its American counterpart. The high setting on a Miele dryer would be medium on a regular dryer.Considering that a regular dryer is 5600 watts to 7500 watts on a Maytag halo of heat. The washer and dryer are both 15 amps, sharing the 30 amp that the plug spits out. It is not quite apples to Oranges when you are looking at them side by side.It is an entirely different thinking with these units than anything else we have here in the US.
Usually when I am drying clothes, it depends how big the load is.I always count on an hour at least to dry a load of laundry.Although, the washer is going on a program that is 1:45, it is not a big deal if the dryer is taking that long.I am acostmed to it. I start the washer and or dryer, and go and do something else, maybe go to the store, do something else.
As far as the water thing, I can't speak for your house, or what could be going on. I have a very small house, when you flush the toilet, you know it, you can see the water flux a little bit. Esp when the Dishwasher fills, don't be in the shower, you will be taking it with cold water. As far as my washer and the water preasure, mine seems to do better then the other applainces at home. You can tell that it is filling up, although, mine is hooked to only cold with the spliter on the back for both hoses going to each side, very important with a Miele.It has sensors everywhere that are connstantly measuring everything that is going on with it. One time, I had it set on whites 140 for example and it tripped something in the washer.I called Miele to find out what the falt was with it. The intake light was on.Together with the Miele people on the phone, we determined that it was that the incomming water was too cold, no hot, it heats from cold. So I just compinsate when it is too cold.It is just a machine that does not know any better. We had a cold winter for a change here, it was understandable.
I have never had a hot converter box ever. I would say that you should replace it if it is doing that, have a tech look at it.It is just not worth buring dowm your house because you are not sure. As far as the rest of it, I would call Miele dirrectly 800-245-8215 and get some assistance,They are always really helpful to me. I do not work for Miele, I just have alot of there products in my home.They all take getting used to.
