Miele Dishwasher Advice

Hi folks. I picked up this 10 year old (or so) Miele DW from a secondhand store, thinking it would be fun to mess around with. Had no previous knowledge of this brand, which was evident the moment I got to seriously studying it. When trying to test the power, the lights and controls lit up like normal. The water connections were a different story. The water supply is obviously part of a proprietary Miele setup that the previous owner severed. The image show what the end of the supply looks like now- totally useless. I researched the proper replacement part, and its $150+ just for that. So, I feel like I'm in a bind here. Can't even test the thing properly without this supply, but it's super expensive. Wondering if there is any way to jury rig a water connection or something without the Miele branded part. Or is it worth it to spend on one of those supply lines? Cut my losses? What would you do? Thanks in advance.

Hi Keith,

In the 240v Models this is a mains voltage inlet valve. I've done the below to replace a failed inlet valve in the past.

If you want to work around it, put a single valve on and wire it to the cable. Then use a double ended washer hose to connect it too the tap.

Just make sure you insulate the connections you make to the inlet valve

That should get you back up and running.

Thank you for the response, Nathan. Very helpful. How would I connect a valve to the severed blue hose inside the plastic tubing? A simple hose clamp? This model is a 120v, not sure if that matters.

Hi Keith, thats right, just get a valve with the right size outlet on it, and use a hose clamp to hold it in place. Then just put spade connectors on the wire and connect those to the Inlet valve.

This looks similar to the first Miele DW I bought in the late 1990s only this looks to be a bit older. I might be wrong but I think you will probably need to find the entire Miele fill line. These lines have electronics inside of them that are designed to detect when a leak or cut has occurred. Without the entire intact line, the DW will think there is a leak and will not work. The same is true for the drain line. Also during installation, if the fill or drain lines are too long, they must not be cut.

Hi Jerrod

its just a solenoid that screws onto the tap. The two wires are power for the double solenoid. The reason you cant cut the hose is a) there is live mains voltage in there and b) the leak detection is based on if the blue hose bursts, the grey hose channels the water into the base of the machine where the float cuts the power to the fill valve and stops any more water leaking.

There are no sensors in the hose, the sensor is the float underneath the dishwasher. The inlet hose is essentially the same part whether its a washer or a dishwasher.

Update: I attempted to rig up a Frigidaire valve to the Miele and it worked! Now I know I have a working machine, at the very least. The test also revealed some pretty cruddy wash arms and other spots that need cleaned up on the machine. Guessing the declining cleaning power of the machine due to blockages is why the previous owner trashed it. I'll tackle the cleaning another day, but big hurdle has been overcome.

Phila twin: Glad you have a working machine. Please share pictures of it. I Would like to know if it is similar to my first Miele DW inside.

Finally got time to do some cleaning on the machine. I ran across this rusted bolt in the back of the cabinet...can't be good. Any idea what I'm looking at here? Is this a replaceable thing? The rust is definitely getting mixed with wash water when it runs.

I also added some photos of the inside for Jerrod. I still don't know for sure how old the DW is, so maybe you can give insight.

So the inside is identical to the G885 I had in 1996 except for that bolt. I don't recall any bolt sticking up from the bottom in the back. Does the dishwasher have a model number on it, perhaps on the door, or on a label on the right side of the door?

Looks like model # is G880 SCi. The other number is nr. 20/45209714.

Another question on this same machine

One of the cooler features of this machine is the 'top solo' function, but I can't be sure it is operating. Every LED on the control panel works BUT the top solo light. I tried cleaning and depressing the spot where the top solo button touches but nothing seems to get that LED to turn on. I attached a photo here of the exposed circuit board and the spots on the panel that correspond, so I know I'm hitting the right spot for that light to illuminate. Does top solo only work with particular cycles? Maybe this one LED is just faulty.
