Nice!!!

Malcolm,

Snap some underside photos of her motor and underside goods if you can ;-)

Jealous!

Installation

I plan to complete the installation myself.

The underside of the machine is completely sealed. The is nothing exposed for pix. Even the hose connections and electrical are preinstalled.

Home Depot

Got to make another run to Home Depot. I need to build up the interior of the cabinet a bit so the machine can be properly anchored.

Andrew - Have fun at the Wash-in-a-thon! Wish I could have made it. I was supposed to be doing a system upgrade this weekend, but it got postponed at the last minute.

Malcolm

Congrats Malcom

"The underside of the machine is completely sealed. The is nothing exposed for pix. Even the hose connections and electrical are preinstalled"

So are you meaning that your "old" Bosch is not like that ??

Also ... what about the sump in that Bosch ? stainless or plastic ?

Can't wait to see your new baby in her place for the 1st load :)

Miele Is In...

The Miele has been installed. I had to run out an buy some salt. You would think Miele would package a starter salt / rinse aid / detergent in these machines. Sheesh! In any case, here is a pic of the new machine in its first wash without dishes. Camera phone is not the greatest...

I will say that the DIY install of the Bosch was a lot easier than the Miele.

Malcolm: cool, congratulations and good job on the install!

Out of curiosity, what did you need to do to the cabinet to install the Miele? And why are you replacing the Bosch? Also, not all places need the salt, the machine will ask for it, but you can skip it if your water hardness is under 4 grains/gallon, I think.

Either way, it's a beautiful machine and I hope you enjoy it in good health!

Machine Operation

Well, I have only done one load of dishes in the machine. Can't much quieter than this thing. The Bosch was rated at 44db and the Miele is quieter.

As for cabinet modification, I had to add some wood blocks to the underside of the counter in order to secure the machine in position. Quite easy, but requiring another trip to the Home Depot was aggravating.

I will take an interior pic and upload it tomorrow afternoon.

The Bosch was damaged when delivered it and the retailer would not replace it because it was a SPECIAL ORDER to get the machine in BLACK! It was such an awful purchasing experience, I wanted to get that thing out of my house as soon as possible.

HHGREGG can kiss my ASS! There, I said it.

Mounting

There are 2 ways to mount the dishwasher...up on top like you did or on the sides like I had to because of the granite countertops that we have. The plugs that cover the screw holes on on the side of the door opening make it very easy to secure the machine. The instructions dont say a whole lot since its a pictogram showing one what to do.
As far as salt goes..use it. In the manual for your machine it will tell you how to properly set it for the salt. Mine does the adjusting automatically and all I do is add the salt. I find that with the new phosphate free detergents that we have here in Mass like Cascade do a much better job if the water is already softened.
Very nice machine I have to say and like I always say...once you go Miele you never go back.

Cabinet Opening

Yeah. I was unable to mount the machine from the sides as the cabinet opening is almost an inch wider than the machine. Eventually, I my find some one-by stock and fill in the gap. But it really isn't that big of a deal to me. There certainly isn't a noise issue arising from it.

Yes, salt has been added. After the first cycle without dishes was completed, I went in to look at the water hardness setting and it reported that it was detected at 3. The default, according to the manual, should be 15. So, I don't think I will need to be refilling the salt container for a while.

I will say that having to custom cut the kick plate is something I didn't expect to have to do. I'll take care of that one evening this week.

Malcolm

Now keep me away from the Miele laundry machines...

Oh the dishwasher is only the beginning Malcolm....BWAHAHAHA! Once you try a Miele washer and dryer ...it will put the SQ's to shame...do I see a W4842 and a T9800 in your future...hmmmmmm

Pics of the first load Please!!

Hey Malcolm. Pics of the interior and first load please. lol

Last week I tried another dishwaher detergent, SOMAT Tabs and also the Rinse Aid. I have not filled the rinse aid yet in that it is still full. But....the Somat Tabs are rally great. I got them through Amazon.com

You also have to try either the Somat rinse aid or the Miele rinse aid. The Miele rinse aid is REALLY GREAT. The load comes out pretty dry. The plastics come out dry and without spots too. I think you can order the MIele rinse aid on line if you cannot get it locally.

I also tried the Miele Dishwasher tabs last year, and they were also great.

Congratulation Malcolm!

I'm green with envy. Can't wait to see pictures (or even videos) of the interior and it's features. Makes me want to "dish" out my old dishwasher

Miele W&D

Well, I don't really see changing the SQ's for Miele's for a year or two. Although, I do have someone that would be happy to take them if I ever decide to make the switch.

The Miele Vac dealership I went to on Saturday for the salt "Somat Brand" had all of the Miele products on hand. I may end up back there in the future to purchase a Miele vacuum cleaner. Who knows...

First load is done and put away. Sorry, no pix of that. Gradually loading for run number two. It may happen this evening. First load was done on Sensor Wash program. It started with a pre-rinse which switched to main wash without a water change. Guess it didn't need one. Then drained and did a single rinse, I think. I don't remember hearing it pump out again. Anyway, the entire wash/dry program was less than 90 minutes. Everything was bone dry at the end of the run. Except for a couple of beer mugs that usually hold a couple tablespoons of water anyway.

All in all, I am pretty happy with it. Much nicer than the Bosch. And the Bosch with the cutlery tray would have been about the same price, but not as well built.

Malcolm

Malcolm congrats on that wounderfully enginered Miele dishwasher
great machine i remembered when they came in my former job
we demo-ed it to death at Gerhards appliances.

Small Load Finished

Well, I couldn't resist. I had to go ahead and run a partial load when I got home from work today. Wasteful? I'm not so sure. A tablespoon of detergent, something like 4 gallons of water. Doesn't seem so bad to me.

In any case, here are the resulting pictures.

With my LaPerla the salt reservoir is in the door. I noticed yours is at the bottom of the tank. I find the door location much easier to fill. The other thing you may find that the U shaped bottle holder in the lower rack...you may find that you never use it. I know I dont and I took it out. As you use your machine you are going to find that the racks hold a great deal and are flexible in loading. The silverware tray...with your silverware you can go heads in the pins or the handles in. With my silverware they have chunky handles so I have no choice but to load them head between pins.
When you use the Sensor Cycle it does drain the prerinse water and it will go right into Main Wash. There are always 2 after rinses. If the dishwasher senses that the load is really bad it will add another prerinse before the main wash.
Your most powerful cycles are Heavy and Pots/Pans. That lower arm with the small jets and the vario pressure wash pump will really surprise you in how much power it has. NOTHING and I do mean nothing survives on the pots and pans after those cycles. I am thinking with your you can add a Soak portion to a cycle. Mine does and I find that I use it alot.

Soak Option

Yes, I do have the option to add a SOAK to a few of the programs but not all of them. I am still trying to figure out why you would want to have a glassware cycle without detergent and rinse aid.

Rack Flexability - the racking in this machine seems to adjust to my needs more than any other dishwasher I have seen. You can tell a lot of research and development went into this machine. The real test will be over Memorial Day Weekend. There will be a house full and this quiet beast will run at least twice a day, if not more.

Malcolm

Your racking looks alot like mine. The lower rack the plate racks should come out and so does the tines in the upper rack. The only time I take them out is for pots and pans. I also take out the silverware tray and drop the upper rack to its lowest position. The idea in taking out the silverware tray is that the top arm can scour the top of the load without being diffused by the tray. One thing with this machine is resist the urge to prerinse. Also the filters are more self cleaning than one would realize. If one scraps the dishes properly then most of the time there is nothing in the microfine filter area.
I can say one thing that I do love my dishwasher...going on 3 years now and absolutlely no problems. Oh and before I forget...if your middle or lower arms gets stuck it will tell you by flashing a warning. The cycle will not advance until you fix it. I encountered that today since a spatula got out of position in the upper rack and blocked the middle arm. I came back into the kitchen and noticed a flashing message in the display. I fixed the problem and the dishwasher finished its job. With yours you can also set it up to give a buzzer when the cycle is done. Also the language can be changed. I like using the UK English and it changes the cycle names. Heavy turns into Intensive,..kinda neat if you ask me.
