Has anyone had any experience with a Miele G 542i dishwasher? I printed the owners manual from their site, but I am dubious about nearly all the cycles on this model not having a pre-wash. Is anyone out there knowledgable about this machine? Thanks!

I'm not sure if this is different from the European models, but I don't think so. As a matter of fact, the older model that I had, the G45 didn't have a prewash/prerinse at all. It had only one cycle with three heated rinses (main wash, interim rinse and final rinse) The G542i has a separate rinse/hold cycle (prerinse or prewash) so there is a possibility to do a prerinse before every cycle.

I have two and mine have two prewash phases with the intensive cycle and one with universal 65, 55 and other cycles I can't remember. They have seven wash programs included the "rinse and hold" cycle. Wonderful machines! Both of them wash beautifully and they are still alive and in good health after almost 30 years!

This is a picture of the G 542. The "i" suffix means this model is made to be integrated ina kitchen furniture. It can be inserted under a countertop and you can apply a customized panel on the door to match the kitchen furniture design. You can also set the pressure applied to the spring to balance the door weight.

Like Peter I downloaded the manual from the American Miele website and I noticed like him that most cycles on the American model didn't have a prewash.

I read the manual as well on the Miele site and the only cycle that has a prewash is the Pots and Pans cycle. You have to remember that this machine isnt that frugal with water. In fact if you look at the manual there is a switch for the water inlet timer to extend the time to fill for added water. This machine if I remember right moves about 106 gallon a minute over the dishes. So with that amount of water being sprayed on the dishes you really dont need a prewash. Plus the jets on this machine are powerful and spray the water in a fan shape from the bottom arm jets. The center has a water feed from the top hence the cone funnel in the center of the upper rack. And I think that there is a top arm as well.
This machine isnt shy about using water and you should get great results. One thing is I dont know if its a 240 volt connection or 120 volt. I used to have literature for it somewhere in my stash.
