Hi guys!
The G562 has been here for a week now, and I can't tell you how delighted and happy I am. I feel like I rediscovered doing dishes automatically: everything comes out way far cleaner than with the Bosch I previously used, even on the Economy wash. Silicone kitchen utensils are perfectly clean and degreased (they used to be kind of sticky with the Bosch, and I always had to wash them with hot water and detergent before using them), glasses and dishes shine, pots and pans are virtually spotless, the rust spots on some of my knives are fading away without having to treat them with steelwool and stainless steel cleaner. In other words it's a dream come true! Hope you enjoy the video I made a few days ago and some pics.

We just replaced a Bosch that was about 3 years old with a Miele 2xxx series that was maybe 8-9 years old. What a difference! And the cutlery rack is awesome!

Your 500 series is an "oldie," made between 1984 and 1988, but they're known for being work-horses and cleaning everything! I went to a G590 that was having its first service call in something like 19 years. Just needed a heater relay!

Congrats!

Chuck

@vacerator: my oven+range is a very BOL TecnoGas, it's an Italian brand specializing in cooking appliances. It came with the flat and I never replaced it as I should completely renovate the kitchen and couldn't afford that when I moved in in 2002: I just added a new sink, a dishwasher and a new fridge, the rest of the furniture belonged to the previous owner (my parents inherited this flat from a relative of ours, and I stepped in). You are right: I have Carrara marble tiles in the kitchen, as well as red Portugal marble tiles in the entrance and in the living room, and a nice hard wood floor in the bedroom. The whole apartment building was built in the late 60s and was intended as distinguished housing for rich people.
@chuck: I think mine was actually built in 1986/87 as according to its plate it's a G562W model with a rated power of 2.4 kW (which is strange, as dishwashers made by Miele at the time had a rated power of 2.7 kw and the first G562s were rated with a power of 3.3 kW). The only "defect" to this machine is that it isn't fitted with the waterproof system, but it's not an actual problem for me as I rarely needed to run a load while I was out with the other dishwashers I had. I really can't understand why its previous owners mostly used it as a dish drainer, it's utter lunacy to me considering its performance.

Ivan,

I am sure by the time you are able to re do your kitchen, it will be great! I like how europeans hand down the property and keep it in the family. My sister lives in my parents former home. We just paid ours off after a 21 year mortgage. I hope I do not have to take on a reverse mortgage in our golden years. Many seniors here are having to do this to afford retirement.
I like Italian designs myself. My grandfather came from Civitela Roveto, near Avezzano. My grandmother came from the Polermo area.
I remodeled mine in 2011. It's sort of Tuscan transitional with a travertine floor in earth tones, russet glazed cherry all wood cabinetry in a shaker style with bead board centers. The drawer fronts are flat, so they add a contemporary flair as well. Crown molding at the top over a triple bead trim. The counter tops are quartz in a greyish color with bits of whites, ambers, blacks, even a few tiny reds.
My sink is a single bowl large undermounted free form composite granite in black from the UK. A Franke brand. Satin nickel faucet and cabinet hardware. The back splash is also travertine from Turkey in earthy lighter tones than the floor with some white and salmon colors. I did an accent tile strip in black, grey, olive glass, and chrome. The wall color is a Tuscan gold/mustard tone.
Appliances are GE profile stainless steel, my oven/cook top is a 30 inch dual fuel convection built in. Big 26 cubic foot side by side refrigerator.
A movable island is in the center of the work triangle space.
When I make sugo, and meatballs, it smells just like my grandmothers kitchen used to. Olive oil, garlic, basil, and good Lumbrusco.
