Miele tried to push sales of their process chemicals for quite some time now no matter where.
Started with FragranceDos, TwinDos and CapDos, then they pushed the professional lineup.
At first, TwinDos machines here shipped with 2 empty containers as far as I know, then they changed that to a voucher to order them for free IIRC, then they even removed that so you have to buy them now.
Their new TwinDos machines without PowerWash now have TwinDos touch fields permanently labeled "Whites" and "Colors" with a big TwinDos decal above it instead of a "Dosing" touch field with a variable prompt in the display so you will be a) inconvenieced when using other detergent ("Wait, which was softner and which detergent?") and b) you will be reminded of TwinDos detergent every time you use the machine for the entirety of the machines life.
PowerWash and TwinDos combined are only avaible on M-Touch machines here now, starting at about 1400€, and they of course don't have that limitation.
Thing is these aren't nieche machines over here and NOBODY would EVER buy such a machine if they were locked to Mieles expensive detergent you can't even buy in stores.
So they have to keep the option of switching detergents open to even sell machines.
In the US the traget market is more nieche and more likely to be totally fine with ordering the refills via their Amazon Dash Button right next to the machine and having them delivered same day into their small "luxury condo" in the upper eastside. As long as laundry is as little hazzle as possible, the 30$ extra spent don't bother them.
Now their new G7000 dishwasher lineup has AutoDos that can ONLY be used with Mieles detergent discs which are like twice as expensive as brand detergent tablets or there abouts.
And constructing an empty refillable disc for off the shelf powders wouldn't be hard. Adding the programming necessary isn't hard either, only thing you'd loose would probably be load and soil based dosing, but even that could probably be implemented.
Wait for the G7000 to FLOOD luxury kitchens when they come to the US. So many people would love the idea of not even having to bother with STARTING the dishwasher.
Get the Miele app, setup the wifi connection, connect machine, setup the time schedule for AutoStart, pop in the disk and you are done for the month.
Just load dishes through the day, then unload them every day when you come home from work.
Once a month your phone alerts you to change the disk and while doing that you clean the filter and refill salt and rinse aid as well.
Spending an hour an month and no bother anymore.
The rich US folks will love that.
Here in Germany they now even have a high class food delivery system for people owning a "Dialoggarer". Just shove in the food, set as described and done is your restaurant grade dinner, as easy as a normal microwave ready meal.
Sure, more expensive, but if you spend 8000€ on an oven that bit of money will not bother you the least bit.
Oh, and they rent out washers ("BlueHorizons").
The washer is WiFi connected and tracks how many loads you do. TwinDos detergent is included IIRC and shows up automaticly.
3 tarifs:
S at 4,99€ per cycle
M at 9,99€ a month plus 2,99€ per cycle
L at 49,99€ a month with 250 cycles a year, after that each cycle is again 2,99€
49,99€ activation fee
24 month contract that automaticly lengthens by a year if you don't terminate 3 months before the period ends
No cost for repairs as long as not caused by you
New machine every few years (theoreticly)
They even sell f******g coffee with their coffee makers now!
I guess they perfected every appliance in their eyes by now, so they were searching agressivly for more growth potential.
And man do they try...
