Miele W1065 problems

Hello,

we have a W1065 that has developed some issues over the last year.

The first issue was that water intake is very slow if temperature is set to higher than cold. Our workaround is to set it to cold, then when full, select the temperature.
I did clean the inlet filters, and try to check if the valve gets voltage, but was confused as to what, where and when that happens.

Now the worse problem, the timer hangs at several locations during cycle. It advances sometimes, but then gets stuck sometimes, for example during rinse, in a position where it lets in water, and pumps out water at the same time.
I checked the two timer motors. The left one (viewed from inside) is definitely rotating, the right one was not, but that might be normal, it might not run all the time. But it could also be that the machine waits for a sensor input that does not happen.

I would love to get this machine running again, it is otherwise in a good shape, and the motor was replaced 10 years ago, so basically new.

I called service (now India), they were unable at the time to connect me with a service person. We are in the Princeton, NJ area close to the Miele center.

Bad news I'm giving you....

Slow intake of water for anything but "cold" means the hot water solenoid is going or is kaput. MieleUSA no longer stocks this part nor has for a few years now. They consider W7XX, and W10XX model machines "obsolete". No new parts can be ordered from Germany.

These machines use two solenoids. A triple valve for "cold", and single for "hot".

Depending upon temperature selected washer will fill for wash, pre-wash, extended soak, using all cold or a blend of hot and cold water. This is why machine must have both water valves connected to taps.

Other issue is the solenoids are 120v/60hz, not standard European 208v-240v/50hz. So you cannot just order a Miele solenoid from Europe or elsewhere either.

What you can do is look around to find similar hot water/single solenoid that has same fittings and connections. Replacing single solenoid isn't a difficult repair.

As for your timer/programmer, again welcome to my world. The part (either timer motor itself, or internal cams) are dying, dead (in case of timer motor), or worn and thus device is not counting down and moving timer dial as it should.

Again Miele no longer has this part in stock, nor can it be found elsewhere. Again sadly this is a 120v/60hz part which means even if you luck out and locate one in say Europe, it will not work due to difference in voltage and frequency. Even when new and in stock part cost nearly $600 USD IIRC.

So far have not found a single timer repair service in North America who is familiar or even will touch Miele programmer/timer.

More sad news is that MieleUSA went through various internal management changes early in 2020. There no longer is a way to reach "tech support" over telephone or email that will help owners self diagnose or repair machines. Today calls are routed to some overseas call center (usually), and all CSR can do is see what is one his/her screen. They aren't techs of old so don't have any expertise in that area. Not that it would do any good because CSR are no longer permitted to give such advice. All they can basically do is set up repair call out.

So there you have it; while the solenoid issue might be addressed, timer/programmer is hopeless unless or until you can find another.

W1070 and W1065 machines once popped up now and then for sale, but haven't seen any recently (and I've been looking). Dozens of these washers with tons of still usable parts were likely scrapped.

Previous comments not withstanding

While Miele did make many parts for their appliances in house, others were sourced off shelf. This and or perhaps made to order for Miele.

Your washer's programmer/timer should have something on motors indicating who made them (usually Crouzet, but have seen Ako and even some Chinese).

Providing internal cams and other parts haven't worn down or whatever, and it's only the timer motors if willing to do legwork might be able to fix.

Again Miele didn't make the timer motors, so you just have to find exact replacements. One motor spins clockwise, the other counter clockwise. One is "rapid advance" while the other clicks/counts off time (IIRC).

You need to replace timer motor that isn't working with another that has not just same voltage and frequency, but rotates at same speed.

Can search archives under my user name for adventures with Miele timer/programmer. Long story short MieleUSA won't help any of us, nor will maker of timer (Crouzet in my case). So we're all basically on our own.

Thanks for your reply. The timer is Crouzet 82340, same for both. Thought about swapping them. Is there a definite method to diagnose them? Should they be constantly running both, or only on demand?
What do you think about my theory that a sensor that signals low water level is bad and therefore program would hang when pumping out the water (which it does)?

If push comes to shove, what is the popular feeling towards the WWH660 WCS TDos&WiFiConn@ct W1 Front-loading washing machine with TwinDos, CapDosing, and WiFiConn@ct with the hand-painted periwinkle? We do not really want the gizmos but its the only one we could find locally that is not on backorder.

Are same as mine and many other Miele washers or dishwashers from period. However there are a few numbers after that make world of difference. Again some timer motors turn clockwise, other counter clockwise. If you attempt to swap them out it could damage the programmer cams or other parts. Then situation is totally hopeless.

Don't know how advanced these older Miele washers are in regards to sensing low water level in tub. They obviously do so when filling for wash or rinse cycles, but have always thought draining is simply a time marked thing. When timer reaches point to stop draining and begin filling or spinning, that is what machine will do. I wouldn't recommend it but accidently my Miele went into spin with quite a lot of water in tub.

Am fortunate to have several other washing machines (two German AEG, Maytag wringer, and Hoover twin tub), so am spoiled for choice.

Pretty much have left the Miele alone unless want or need certain things it will do that others cannot. Standing around waiting to move timer manually got old really fast... *LOL*

While recent Miele washers (W1 series) are indeed nice units, they aren't same as things of old. For at least past few new model series Miele has taken some of the money out of their machines.

Yes, Miele washers are still perhaps better built than some others, but IMHO not the rock solid tanks of near commercial quality of old. [this post was last edited: 9/2/2021-18:28]
