I have a W1918 that stopped spinning. Ran the last load, and wondered why it was so quiet. All the clothes were wet, and the water had been pumped out. So I ran Spin mode, and nothing - no movement at all. After digging around this forum, and talking to Miele tech support, have narrowed it down to either relay(s) on the power module (most likely), or brushes in the motor assembly (least likely). As a new power module from Miele is roughly $600, I sure would like to try to swap out the old relays on the original board first. I was wondering if anyone here has ordered the relays (where did you buy them) and tried that (did it work?), or knows of someone who offers this repair service.

Thanks in advance

we have a slightly used power module from a 1918

along with one that may or may not be bad. the original was swapped out during a repair along with the main control board. Not sure which one was the bad part but Miele suggested they were both bad so that is what we did.

The machine itself was working until the bearings/spider failed. It runs but makes a horrible racket spinning. Would be a good parts machine as we replaced a lot of things over the years (motor brushes, boards, boot, etc).

Not sure what it would cost to ship to the west coast - I am in CT.

If you want to try the old power board, I think it is still down in the basement and will send it to you for the cost of the postage. Let me know.

Brushes least likely?

Does it tumble at all?

Cause if it does not move at all, the first thing to fail on about any washer motor that incorporates brushes is the brushes. Though relays can get stuck or become defective otherwise, first thing is to check the brushes. Its relatively easy (though a dirty job), and if they are worn down shorter then about half an inch or such, they are relatively cheap to replace.

This happened with my W1918...

This happened to me too, about 2 years ago. The Miele tech guy came out and replaced the motor brushes and all was good! I remember him using a bent dental mirror to "do the procedure"!

The motor would turn the wash basket for washing and rinsing, but not for any of the spins.

He suggested that if I want to prolong the new brushes, I should turn down the spin speed from 1600.
