Hi, can anyone tell me what the 4 springs are called, how to tell if that is what needs to be replaced and if it can be repaired by a novice? On the diagram #27 is the part I'm asking about Thanks!

Suspension springs for W1926 seem to be part #28 according to my diagram with holder being #29. You need both spring and holders (if the are not in perfect condition) as both should be replaced at same time. Technically all four springs and holders should be replaced at same time.

As for a "novice" doing this sort of repair that depends upon how one defines that word.

It took two big Miele techs about an hour or so to swap out all four springs/holders on my W series washer. There was much bad language, scraped knuckles/fingers/hands and general feeling the job was more than what it was worth being done in home.

There are a few different ways of swapping out springs but none are exactly easy. Most require two persons and or perhaps some sort of winch or some other support for suds container.

Basically four suspension springs support the heavy tub (including cast iron weights). Two shock absorbers are attached below at sides of tub that control and restrain movement of suds container.

Because weight of tub and cast iron pull springs down under tension coupled with shock absorbers some how tub must be lifted slightly. This decreases tension enough in theory to unclip springs from tub and washer cabinet to swap out old for new. Notice operative words "in theory".

Tub is quite heavy and again somewhat restrained by shocks, so it will take good amount of strength to lift said tub *and* keep it in suspension while someone else changes springs/holders.

I was shocked Miele agreed to such a repair in home. Normally such work requires sending entire washer off to workshops in Princeton, N.J. were Miele has winches and other equipment.

As stated there are other ways of going at this repair, but none are exactly easy given weight of tub.

According to Miele USA parts listing while springs are available the holders are not. Unless holders currently attached to your machine are in very good nick you'll need to find a source for replacements. Holders prevent metal from grinding on metal which happens when spring is clipped onto washer cabinet without any sort of holder.

There are also four metal holders affixed to suds container itself where springs clip into. Front and back are not same and have different part numbers. They are #25 and #26 on diagram.

Miele considers W19XX series washing machines obsolete. They've long since ceased importing parts from Germany for these units. Whatever is left at Princeton warehouse or perhaps individual Miele repair persons stock is all what remains. If part is NLA from Miele you'll have to try other sources.
