Hello,

I am about to splurge on this combination- Miele WKH120 WPS and the matching dryer: TKG440 WP.

Does anyone have any experience with this combination or with either machine? Anything you could tell me about it?

Thank you.

The few things one hears about them:

- The dryers are not yet pefect. Tangeling, creasing and such are common complaints.
- The washers are REALLY versatile, wash and rinse just as good as any Miele.
- The QuickPowerWash cycle however is not quite something lots of people use. Only 1 rinse, and if you select Cottons at 50°C or lower, select short, and activate the Intensive option in the ProgramManager, you get 2 rinses and simmilar rythms in just about the same time.
- There are some noise complaints. Often either the transportationrods are not secure enough at the back of the machine, or the TwinDos cover isn't latching perfectly. But even then, they are flimsier at balancing yet not considerably more silent the previous generations.

Overall, not bad designs, but not quite Miele-pefect yet. They however redid them already with PowerWash 2.0 and some other fixes as well as some slight cycle changes. These models end with a 1, so 121 would be the PW 2.0 version.

Don't get me wrong, these machnies seem actually verry good, just not perfect as one wouls suppose for 1000+ bucks. These are all just second hand complaints.

There is a guy on youtube who filmed his then TOL W1 Miele a lot. Just search for Miele W1 on YouTube, his name Rai Christorphu if I remember correctly.

The platform the W5780 is from isn't the "better choice" per se. But the design is tested and overhauled several times. So its more of a safe bet. The basic design is simply more worked out. It by far lacks the versatility of the W1 series, but therefor has the old style FU-motor with its "old" and more aggressive spin profiles; over all, just the thing a Miele used to be in my opinion.

Lets try again:
If I would buy a Miele as new, innovative washer I can have a lot of fun with and new things to try out, I'd go with the W1 series.
If I wanted a more down to earth daily driver that just washes my clothes and nothing super interesting with the latest technology, I'd go with the W5780.

I have exactly those models of washer (WKH120 WPS) and dryer (TKG440 WP).  I've had them for the last 18 months.  Before moving to Spain, we had the W5780 and matching vented dryer T8722 in the UK.  I could go into great detail if you wish, but I guess you're just looking for a general overview.

I think the WKH120 WPS is a very good and very sophisticated washing machine.  You can throw it a curveball and it will deal with it just fine.  It seems able to adapt to any kind of load or situation and produce excellent results.  It has additional features over the W5780, most of which I think are not worth bothering with.  I've stopped using the twin dos and I don't bother with the steam option.  It's a fantastic machine but I would be pretty much just as happy with the W5780 although the WKH120 WPS does have the edge.

As for the dryer TKG440 WP, it dries very well and will get clothes completely dry while giving out far less heat to the room than a traditional condenser dryer.  It does tangle my particular bedding.  I've had Miele out to update the software but it still only reverses for 10 seconds every 5 minutes and will ball my bedding.  I would prefer to go back to my vented T8722 as it was faster and left fewer wrinkles.  Being vented, it left the load cool at the end, rather than hot.  The best dryer I have ever had was a Maytag Neptune gas vented dryer when I lived in the States.  It was fast, big, left few wrinkles and I liked it a lot.  I would say that you should only get a condenser dryer if you definitely absolutely cannot have a dryer vent installed in your chosen location.
