might be time to retire the LG Turbodrum

Having a real problem with the LG Turbodrum recently, load after load of ordinary daily clothes and underwear are coming out with quite a bit of pilling and lint on them.
Not sure what might be causing the problem as we separate all loads into their various batches, do not overdose on detergent, rarely use fabric softener, don't really use too much Vanish type products and do regular warm washes to prevent build up and of course clean out the 2 lint filter bags after each load.
I am finding if I over ride the automatic water level selection function and go straight to highest water level, this alleviates the problem a little but does not entirely eliminate it.
I am starting to get a bit frustrated with it even though it recently passed it;s 10th birthday, I am thinking it may be replacement time.
I do really like the look of the Beko 6.5kg F.L., but also the Euromaid 7kg F.L. and the Fisher&Paykel Washsmart T.L. range.
What do you guys think, persevere or time to go shopping for a new laundry companion.
Also we gave the Haier twin tub away to a cousin of ours who's machine also bit the bullet and he really wasn't in a good financial state to replace his one, what bad timing.

Ok, I really don't quite know a lot about these LGs.

But, if the automatic load sensing creates wrong estimates and excessive wear on clothing are a problem with a 10 year old wash plate type machine, it almost sounds like weired bearing problem.
You could check if there is play in the wash plate or if there are any weired noises.

The Euromaids seem to be another clone of basicly the same design as the Bekos. So, there won't be a big difference between Beko and Euromaid.
The F&P don't seem a bad choice either.

If you want to stay with a TL...

I would suggest the new Samsung wobble range. I have 2 aunts that each have one and they love them. I love them too. And the one aunt got one as a replacement for her almost 20 year old LG turbodrum when the gearbox failed.

Otherwise I would recommend an LG front loader. I have a 7kg DD that is already 5 years old but still working fantastically. The new ones are really great machines too.

Have you tried a different detergent? Maybe you got a bad batch and it forms precipitates when it reacts with minerals in your water. I remember using some Sears detergent on a trip to Las Vegas, and when it combined with the local hard water, it left what looked like lint all over the clothes.

Maybe try a different laundry soap.

I know this won't directly to you, (but could explain your issue) but I have noticed that when I use DAZ detergent, the clothes seem to get bobbly/piled much more quickly.

This is backed up by my sister in law, she uses DAZ exclusively to anything else, I've never known her not use it, and her clothes are really bobbly.

Never mentioned it to her as don't want to offend

It is a good soap, maybe it's just our water here (ridiculously soft - can't even get a hardness reading off it) and how it reacts.

So maybe try a different soap.

I'm voting on the detergent side

If you are starting to have issues, and the machine worked fine up until recently, you may want to try a different detergent, and possibly more detergent.

 

In the back of my washer manual one of the problems solved is Pilling and linting.  Solution:  Add more detergent to help keep the dirt and lint in suspension.

Thanks for all the tips and advice guys, much appreciated, as for the detergent question, we do use various different ones, at the moment we are using Bosisto's Eucafresh, which is a bit different to most others as it doesn't have chemical fillers.
I think it is basically a soap based one infused with eucalyptus oil, I like it as it dissolves completely without any fuss and cleans quite well.
I might try a load tonight with the box if Fab we bought the other day with a little more and a higher water setting.
Re the question on bearings, I think there might be a bit to that hence why I will try the Dab with more water and see what happens
Mind you whilst looking at others online, I have taken a real fancy to the Euromaid WM7 front loader.

I think it is a case of "Your Mileage May Vary."

Perhaps I'm just a glutton for punishment, but haven't always seen these "48-hr dried stains" removed per promises. Even minor specs of tomato-based sauces that even got a dabbing with cool water when they happen don't always shift.
In order to ensure sweat-stains don't pop up, I find it prudent to pre-rinse and dry the garment beforehand. Thankfully not dealing with anti-perspirants these days, so I'm sure its actual sweat. Presumably in the time between wearing and washing the nature of it changes and warm or hot washing causes this issue.

The difference in cleaning between our top detergents is so little I think you'd be hard-pressed to take issue with anything on offer, at least in my books.

Personally, I prefer Bio-Zet or Drive detergents, for both the scent, cleaning and rinsing ability.
Noticed in the box of Cold Power being used by other householders that this stuff is nice and free-flowing, a very coarse looking powder (similar to Omo or Drive).
Bio-Zet is like a desert sand almost. Very fine, but never, ever clumps from what I see.

The other thing is Today Tonight (and A Current Affair) is rather notorious (IMHO) for being a show full of flashing lights and gimmicks.
Apparently "Current Affairs" include topics like the "TVs and Durable-Goods are Cheaper than Ever!", where the file-footage then demonstrates the cameraman running down an aisle looking at sale prices, and some "expert" telling us all about how things are only getting better.
Perhaps "Latest Gossip from MyKitchenRules" or something equally absurd from "reality" TV constitutes "Current Affairs?"

For the most part, these evening extravaganzas of exaggeration* aren't at all watchable and I turn my attention to other channels when these abhorrent excuses for "news" and "information" pop up.
{* I wouldn't say I'm not exaggerating here. Perhaps I am. These shows are like painful distractions from the greater issues at hand. Then again, even the more reputable programs like 730, Four Corners, 60 Minutes etc are all biased in their own ways}.

Yes I can see that about the bias, we have similar shows doing the same thing here.

I gotta admit, I like the look of that Biozet a lot, but alas, we can really only get a hold of UK, USA and some European detergents easily.

As for Cold Power, I so wish a manufacturer over here would launch a powder for cold water washing as sometimes if I'm washing clothes that are clean, for example if they have been stored for a while and just need refreshing. Then a cold wash is fine.

We have that Ariel Actilift Gel marketed for cold water, but the Gels are so gelatinous, I don't trust that over time they would not gunge up the outer tub. Even though (unlike most of the non interested population) I do plenty of hot powder containing cycles.
