Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Keep in mind the average person IS NOT going to pay $450 each for an old washer or dryer no matter what kind it is.Besides on here how many other places are there where people collect old large appliances?So--these may remain unsold for a long time. And these machines could die at anytime!!!That is a lot of money for the risk!

Here are more photos

I didn't respond because I'm not used to this forum format. There is no corrosion or repainting of any kind. Here are some shots of the internals and the rear of the dryer.

these are in amazing condition for their age.The machines appear to have been carefully used and taken care of.Prices--I just don't know.I don't have a blue book on old appliance prices.Same as with vacuum cleaners.

Nice Pair Of Maytag Highlanders Aprox-1963-5

These appear to be a lightly used and well maintained pair of NOW very rare Maytag's, its a good sign that the washer has had a new inlet valve, new agitator etc.

These machines may need little or no work to keep using for a while longer.

While they are a little expensive it is not a bad price given the rarity and the condition, I have paid over $2000.00 for machines I really wanted and that is before the cost of shipping them 1/2 way across the country. I don't think it does this hobby any good for so many folks to start complaining about what someone is asking for some very cool appliances, doing so just discourages sellers from bothering at all and more cool old appliances will just be junked because of a few cheapskates who want every thing handed to them for $35 or some such ridiculous price.

But if collectors do not tell the seller that their price is a little steep, the machines might sit there for months and, if no interest is show, the might be donated or disposed of which would be a shame. I think a polite informing the seller that they have set the price a little too high might be of benefit to both the seller and prospective buyers.

That having been said, the dryer looks unused. I like that someone replaced the Gyrator style agitator with a Power Fin which greatly improves the performance.  Maytag was a washer that needed souping up and Maytag unwittingly  provided parts that made it easy to do.

No one expects to purchase this set for  $35.00 And I don't think anyone who is asking $900.00 for a set like this will say. "Oh well, no takers, let's scrap 'em". People need to be realistic, they are a beautiful set, but IMHO, not worth $900.00.

Someone else sees this and says, "well that old rusty Maytag washer out back in the garage must be worth $500.00, because this set is $900.00." And you get more outrageous prices....

From the looks of the oven liner, this might have been a vacation home, and little used at that. Maybe the person in charge of meal preparation only knew how to make reservations. It is like a time capsule and shows little use and excellent maintenance.

The nice thing about these is they last forever given proper care. I dont think most people that arent collectors would be interested because as much as I love my A407 and it runs well for a 44 year old machine, the one thing my friends say when I tell them about it is " Damn! That thing must use a ton of water!". In an area like mine where we pay a neighboring town a sewer use tax thats high plus high water bills everyone is very water conscious. Im not sure how it is water wise in other parts of the country. As a tenant I dont get a water bill every 3 months, its the law water is included in the rent.

The agitator has obviously been replaced. The original would have been the black bakelite. For me, that takes away from some of the charm of this machine. $500.00 for the pair would be a much more reasonable asking price.
