Hey guys!

Does anyone have a source for new mixer cords? Most of them are 17-gauge I believe. I could use a vacuum cleaner cord but I would prefer the smooth mixer cord style. I have not been able to find a company who sells them. Hardware stores sell replacement appliance cords which are 18-gauge and are bit too heavy.

Hi Lou.

As I understand it, the higher the gauge number the THINNER the wire. BTW

#10 wire is for 30 amps
#12 wire is for 20 amps
#14 wire is for 15 amps

etc.

AMG (American Wire Gauge) can be throught of as (roughly) the number of pulls through progressivley smaller dies to get the wire thinner.

Good luck in your quest!

Toggles is right

And it makes sense, as long as you're replacing the cord, to replace the capacitor/s, too.
I always put a grounded cord in, especially on the KA 3a,b,c and 4c models.
Not, that I've ever had the great good fortune of finding a 3a.

I've had decent luck finding different types of cords at thrift stores. Usually they're in plastic bags hanging on a wall. Or perhaps a heavier-than-average duty extension cord would work if you want to chop it off to size.

Louis,

Here's what I do when I want to put new cords on my restored vacuums...I go to Ace Hardware. They sell grey replacement vacuum cleaner cords. 18' foot length and they are smooth. No ridges. If I want a black cord, I buy their brand of utility light. It's 25' and comes with the light socket in a cage. I just discard or give away the socket and cage. That cord is smooth too. The jacket on the wire is a little thicker than what usually goes on a vacuum, but I think it would look great on a mixer. Both cords are 18 gauge, two conductors. molded plugs. They are both inexpensive too. I think the utility light is about $12.00. The replacement cord is $9.00.
