here's your replacement dishwasher! Looks to be in better condition than the first one (it's in better condition than mine, at least).

Love my current unit to bits but once is quite enough. *LOL*
The top loading is getting to me as do not have the space to keep the lid totally clear. So each time one needs to load/unload everything has to come off then be put back on again. That has gotten old very fast.
Also as noted previously during the colder times of year when the boilers are set higher to make steam heat hot water is fine. Otherwise we're dealing with hot water temps of only about 120F to 130F. Cleaning wise performance is fine using NOS Cascade Complete or Pure Rinse (loaded with enzymes and phosphates), but drying is another matter. Even with a full heated dry cycle things are still not totally dry even next morning.

I share your pain, Launderess. The Roto-Rack hosted its own pile of items, and the Mobile Maid defies being piled upon. Then it occurred to me--an easy strategy for better organization! Just place the trash can behind the machine, and everything takes care of itself--automatically!

Now understand why the design died out and has not been revived.
In theory the idea does seem rather practical, however when it comes to day to day living a top opening dw is anything but.
At least with a front loading portable you can leave it in a cubby or with things piled on top and gaining access is no problem. Cannot imagine any housewife or whatever wanting to shift more than say a some sort of cover and perhaps a decorative dish three or more times a day, seven days a week.
You want to cry after doing all that and find one dish has been forgotten. In such instances that thing is either shoved into the fridge to wait for next load of dishes, or simply washed by hand.

yes, I agree. As people remodeled their kitchens in the 70's, they opted for built in dishwashers also.
My first house did not have one, so I bought a 1989 Maytag butcher block top portable. I did not have to move it, because I had room at the end of the counter and cabinet run. I just let the hoses set against the back splash, and connected it to the faucet run it.
If I know my ex, it's still in there also. Maybe built in by now, but as cheap as some people are when it comes to spending money.
