Model year on this Lady ?

I didn't grab the Serial # but I was hoping someone would know the year on this model ? It's somewhere in the early 60's ?

I went to a house a couple weeks back to pick up a vintage stove and was really happy to see the Kenmore lurking in the corner. When I asked about it - the owner said she was about to have it taken the dump and that I could have it. For me a day of junkin' does not get any better - A 42 Gibson Fridge - A 52 Universal Stove - A 55 Admiral TV (from a different house around the corner) and the Kenmore !

As usual we drove home with the truck looking like Sanford and Son.

This is a 1963 Lady Kenmore. Seems to be one of the favorites on this site.

Of all the Ladys that I have seen on this site, my favorite tends to be the 1966-67 Keyboard.

I did see a couple of 60's on here a time or two. I know what a 1961 Lady Kenmore looks like, but I never seen anyone pick one up as of yet.

And I never seen what a 1962 Lady Kenmore looks like either. I would like for a 1962 Lady Kenmore to pop up here somewhere.

I don't know why, but the '63 Lady seems to have been everywhere at one point. I have probably come across 12 or more in my life, including three or four that friend's moms had. One mom had TWO of them at once (they had 6 kids). In all this time though I have seen ONE lowly 62 model, and I've never seen a '64 other than the picture on here. Then there seems to be a half-bazillion '65 Lady Ks. I think there are two or three '63s that can be seen on the farm...

The '62 Lady K is not incredibly different than the '63...the '63 being less "cluttered" mostly. The timer dial was smaller in diameter though in the same place, and the eight buttons were also in the same place, though they were white, with the corresponding letters with colored surrouonds that match the explanation from the lighted side of the panel (meaning if 'A' was aqua on the left panel, it was aqua on the button too). It did say "AUTOMATIC WASHER" in classic script above the timer dial I think.

As I said, I only have seen one of those....it was a neighbor's and it had bearing chatter that was only bested by my mother's 1961 model 70. You could hear either one of them outside when they were spinning.....

This 1963 Lady is one of my favorites but, I also love the (1963,I think not sure) "70" model, instead of the glass panel backlit (Lady)just had a chrome front but, it had the water level & temp controls in those lighted ovals, with the round center control also backlit. Guess there was not enough room to backlight the center control on the Lady?

Drewz....funny about the console lighting

There were a bunch of Kenmores in the neighborhood I grew up in. In addition to my Mother's '61 model 70, there was a '62 Lady K, a '63 model 70 just like you describe, a '63 model 60, a '64 model 70 and a '67 model 70, just to mention some - all at friends houses. I was able to sneak a lot of views of all of them (later they knew what I was doing and one lady would save laundry for when I was over! lol).

I didn't know that any of those machines had panel lights until later on - none of them. I worked on a '67 model 70 back in the 90s and fully restored it, including the dial light and heat shield which I was surprised to find.

From what I can tell and have learned here, the 1963 70 series was lighted like you said, and so was my mother's - I had no idea. The '62 Lady was too, but all the bulbs had burned out and none of the moms bothered to have them fixed. The only machine that I'm not sure of is the 63 60-series (it looked like the 70 but had turqoise knob surrounds) which I am guessing was not lighted. It was the only one of the batch not to have a Roto-swirl.

There is at least one example of each (the '63 60-series and 70-series) at the farm, for grins.

I don't know if it's lighted or not. This set is waaaayyy in the back of my storage building.

IIRC a neighbor friend's Mom had this 70 series but in white - the dials light up but cannot recall if the '70' does...

I am pretty sure your Coppertone beauty has backlit controls, which was standard on a 1963 Model 70.

I believe a 1963 Model 60 does not have backlit controls. The console design looks just like that of the 70, but does not have the chrome finish, and to my knowledge, the turquoise ovals are solid.

If only I could remember where it is, but there is an archived thread (2005 or 6 archives), which provided a comparative analysis of the differences between the 1963 Models 600, and 70. As I remember one of the differences was that the 70 had backlit controls, whereas the 600 did not. Being that a Model 60 was a little further down the line from the 600, I am pretty sure it also did not.

Here is a picture from the Farm with one example of the 1963 Model 600. Behind it on the right is a 1967 or 8 Model 70, which must be like the one you mentioned a neighbor had. My friend had a 1968 version just like that with a gold Rotoswirl.

Thanks Gordon & KennyGF for the info and pic, I love that machine, wish I could have a Lady with the glass plate and the "70" control panel, that would be way cool! With all that light I could take down the laundry room ceiling light fixture!
