no more rust problem

with that! i will wait 2 days, recoat, wait 2 days and put a coat of rustoleum on it before reassembly. good things are worth waiting for they say and rust is a huge enemy of dishwashers with metal tubs! especially one this old!

the motor and heater element

are wired in parallel and both operate together thru both the wash and dry cycle

this machine has a rinse, wash, rinse, wash, rinse, rinse and the washes are 8 minutes each, all rinses are 3 minutes except the final which is 5.

it says each fill is 6-8 quarts, timer advances 7.2 degrees every 60 seconds and drain pump runs when motor is off

there is a rinse/hold, wash/hold, regular wash and a super wash with hygenic rinse cycles.

dry is 17 minutes and total cycle time is 49 minutes.

gee, these new machines today should take note of this little
iumpeller model's ability to wash and dry a load in 49 minutes! and it probably does as good a job too! with a single impeller!

hope you dishwasher fans have enjoyed this little photo post, i am going to take a break and take a couple more pics as i start putting it back together here. will post them later here tonite.

Great pictures and restoration! Try Larry at Modern Parts House in Parma, OH, I did get that exact impeller brand new from him about 10 years ago for a Frigidaire D&M dishwasher so he might have another.

wow thanks!

that would be great, so larry in parma might have the part! i know parma well! i lived in sandusky ohio for 10 years when i worked for cedar point. in fact i moved to minneapolis when they bought valleyfair in the late 70's.

i will try to get ahold of him via phone tomorrow!

thanks as always, this site and you guys are great!

i was just talking to a member who picked up a 1-18 today and i told him to post his questions on the site. seems it won't go into high speed spin but that's a seperate topic i know.
but after talkin to him i got excited and used my 1965 rollermatic again tonite! love that washer!

now back to the dishwasher at hand here!

Pete, You have really detailed your efforts nicely here. The method of driving the impeller is exactly the same as the Kenmore that I used to have back in the early 70's. And the rubber drain cover, and rubber sump is exactly the same as well, indicative, I think, of the D&M machines.

Pete,

It is great to watch you do what I never had time to do. These dishwashers were waiting patiently for you to rescue them. Super job. That impeller machine is impressive. And I like the product placement for the Zoom Spout turbine oil, great stuff. Larry at Modern is very well stocked, but you seem to have a knack for finding parts. OOOHHH, what's next? The Slant Front GMFR TL? The stainless steel KDI 16? The avocado portable? I really enjoy your posts. Oh, and I'm picking something up today that will rev your engine, I'll send pics later. I think your handle should be "DishwasherKing" matt

love havin my engine reved up!

i rev it whenever i can you know! so i'm excited to see what you are sending pics of.

i have already ordered a seal for the slant top frigidaire in case it needs it, parts are still available at parts houses!

the kds-16 stainless door is on display in my living room along with 7 other machines and the frigidaire rollermatic. i'm not worried about any of my kitchenaids as i can get tons of parts for them and pump parts are still manufactured by hobart for their comercial machines.

the kelvinator d&m i have ordered a pump seal for also. as soon as this modern maid impeller machine is back and running (later this week, have 2 more coats of paint to put on that tub opening) i am going to start on the kelvinator.

i also am in the process of putting the sears roto rack back together after a good tub sump paint job and new seal installation.

and my kd-15 is on it's final sump painting coat and will be back together in a week.

so yea, i'm up to my gills in dishwashers here! but i love saving these old machines! and that little g.e. mobile maid that is giving me problems in another post i did last nite is going to just "sit" for awhile in a "time out". it has won this round but the war isn't over yet!

Nice Impeller dishwasher

Wow, Pete, you scored a great machine there! I am sick to think that I trashed a top-load impeller machine that had an impeller that probably would've fit.... Oh, if we only knew then what we know now!
Keep up the good works and keep posting! Can't wait to see this machine in action someday!

found the impeller

as you prob have already seen from my seperate orgasmic post!

think i will change my name from "soberleaf" to "dishwasher drunk"! as it definately is an addiction! this addiction is ok however!
