ok people, break out your TIVO's or VCR's.

Drew Carey's long awaited debut is this coming Monday, 10/15 on CBS,11:00am E/T.
You can visit CBS.com to have a sneak peek at the new studio and logo for the show. Also, rumor has it they have changed the theme of the show.(Big Mistake and I hope this is just a rumor).

I wonder how they will refer to "Barker's Beauties" ,maybe "Carey's Cuties"???

OMG i feel a rant coming on...

im all for updating when needed but this may be too much change. one of the hallmarks of TPIR is nostalgia. the producers are FOOLS if they dont realise this. i had seen peeks of the new set but this looks too different. god i can only imagine what theyve done to the music. if the music is new i will be so sick. i wonder if theyve toyed with the format as well?

Goodson invested in TONS of music sets way back in the day. if it was up to me i would dig up the vast amounts of retired music compositions and give them a whirl on the "new" show.

since before Barker announced his retirement i just knew the producers would be tempted to severely makeover the show when time for a new host. too much change will turn away the viewers in droves. anybody remember when The Young and the Restless introduced a new theme about seven years ago? the y&r fans were up in arms enraged at the change. cbs was forced to return to the classic theme.

i hope i dont get sick on Monday!

aww Brett....it's ok

I too agree with alot of what you say...especially the theme of TPIR. Let's hope they at least save that.

As for The Young and The Restless, I was one of those fans pissed by the new theme. Thankfully the Bell Family had the common sense to switch back to the classic theme.

so when Monday comes, sit back, relax and drink some alka seltzer.

I'll be thinking of you.. =)

No Carey's Cuties

Drew Carey has said in several recent interviews the models will be known by their real names--no "Barker's Beauties"-like moniker for them.
I have every confidence DC will do a good job as host; he understands the unique bond between TPIR and its viewers.

... the new PIR is not as bad as it coulda been... the set is attractive and the format is still the same. the music is just enough like the last version to be unobjectionable. Carey seems uneasy speaking into that microphone. i wonder if the show aired today is the first show Carey taped?

the silly opening camera-work and those ugly showcase podiums have got to go!

what did you think, suds?

LOVED IT~

The new high definition colors were out of this world.

I did have a problem with the fact that everyone won every game, including 1 person in each spin of the big wheel hitting 1 dollar total. WHAT are the chances?~

The whole show was much less structured and free flowing than ever, and the people seemed to be really getting into it.

I think it'll be popular for years yet.

It was just OK I think...

I never realized until today just how much Bob Barker was "The Price is Right".
The set was indeed nice, but Drew did seem quite uncomfortable talking into the mic. I was also very happy to see they didn't change the theme. It was a bit different though, did anyone notice?

JasonL your thoughts?

A Decent Start

Drew did a decent job on his first day; he did have a bit of the jitters, but that should even out with time. The set and the music were a bit different, but remain classic PIR. Sadly, CBS has not yet aired the show in high definition. I have an HD set, and the show was NOT broadcast in HD (it was displayed on conventional box format and not the wide screen used for HD programming). But I suspect CBS will switch over before the February 2009 deadline that cuts off the current analog signal.
Overall, a good start that should only get better.

I don't know. I just watched clips of Drew Carey's first episode on youtube. I know it won't take me long to adjust to the change. Not to mention I've been watching the show since about when I was 2 years old.

Drew needs to loosen up a little but he is (dare I say it) doing a good job.

Did you see that woman almost piss her pants playing Plinko? She REALLY said she had to go potty on national television.

Well, there is only one Bob Barker, and original and a Classi

I can say that the TPIR is the same age as me, so I can say that I have always known Bob Barker from the start. i knew when he could not hear people that it was just a matter of time before he would retire. That is a long time.Drew Will be fine, it is going to take some time for him to loosen up. I did like the high five I saw on the show. That was different. I am sure that someone must have felt the same way when they changed the show completely the first time.

TPIR Before Bob Barker

I grew up on TPIR with Bill Cullen, a host only the more senior members around here would remember. Those of you bemoaning the loss of Barker shoulda heard us Cullen fans when the show was revived in '72 and "jazzed up" so much!

Oddly, Cullen looked like a thinner version of Drew Carey. TPIR was the first show I ever remember seeing in colour.

more observations...

listening to Careys mumbling into the mic makes me miss Barkers clear diction. I cant understand what ur saying Carey!!

Careys suits seem poorly tailored. Or wrinkled. If hes gonna wear suits he needs to step it up a few notches!

He needs to resist the urge to ham it up. It was never really The Bob Barker Show and it shouldnt be The Drew Carey Show now. Richard Dawson got away with hamming because (IMO) he was naturally witty.

He has the most unattractive habit of fidgeting with his hands. At times it seems hes scratching himself!

To his credit, it seems he knows the games fairly well.

Why do i care so much?... One of the younger posters here mentioned that hes been watching since he was two years old... well *i've* been watching since Bob had dark hair and the legendary Johnny Olson was calling the contestants names!...Holly was my favorite Barkers Beauty. I could probably play Ten Chances or Blank Check in my sleep!

You can't blame Drew for being nervous. He has to know full well the enormity of the job he's taken on, replacing an almost cult like figure in game-showdom. Bob Barker WAS The Price is Right just like Vanna White IS the only acceptable letter turner on WOF. You know I think more people will be upset when Vanna leaves WOF than they will when what's his name who emcees the show leaves LOL
