The design screams GM-Frigidaire, but the build quality looks pretty poor. That's nice to find one in such minty shape.
The pumps on these look kind of fragile to me, compared to their full-sized SuperSurge counterparts. Either machine is kind of fragile with the Plastisol-coated interior, but boy howdy, that is a pretty one.
Thank you for thinking of me, Kevin! I don't know how I've developed this magnetization to Montgomery Ward, considering I never had the pleasure of setting foot in a store while it was open, but I do get a kick out of their stuff.
Ralph and I were twins separated at birth--he should have grown up in our religiously Sears-equipped household, and I was meant to sashay through Wards.
Good thing this got snapped up before I could show it to David. He has some raging penchant for the 18" portables that I do not understand.
I agree that there is a big market for these--portables, and especially compact portables commanded a premium price in the Bay Area, where many places lack dishwashers and have even less space to store one on the side.
