How exciting!

So last night I was with a friend at a Goodwill that I don't normally go to and found a few nifty retro items, including a Toastmaster toaster from the 70's (I believe) that I totally would have bought for the $5 that they were asking for, but it appeared that the lever didn't work. It was kind of neat, instead of the lever and the setting dial (it was truly a dial, not unlike what you find on a washer) being on one of the ends as usual, these were placed on the side. Really neat!

Well, I was perusing the dish section when lo-and-behold what did I spy with my little eye? A starburst Franciscan plate and 4 Metlox California Palm bowls. Naturally I snatched them up and went on my merry way to the cash register.

None of the bowls or the plate had a price tag, so the girl behind the counter just looked it up in a binder. The price for the bowls were .99 cents each and the price for the Franciscan plate was .69 cents! Man I'm stoked.

But the funny thing is, is that I can't get that toaster out of my head. I keep thinking that I should have plugged it in to see what happens. I think I'm going to have to go back and check it out.

Starburst and Toastmaster....

Hey B.E.G.!

Don't ya just love the Goodwill and Sally deals! Sometimes the stuff is smutzy and needs a thorough cleaning, but ya can't beat the price!

I'm familiar with Franciscan, but not that particular pattern, and what are Metlox California Palm bowls? Could you post a pic? They just may have some of this stuff down in the land of rust! LOL I'll keep my eyes opened for you.

As far as the toaster.....I've picked up toasters for about $2-3.00 at the thrifts that were in good, operable condition. They just needed a little cleaning. I have also had experience paying too much for a toaster that "cremated" my bread! With toasters, you have to be careful! Would they (the Goodwill folks) think you were weird if you brought a slice of bread and asked to try it out? LOL

Have fun shopping!

Venus :-)

Venus....

you can go to Google Image Search and put Franciscan Starburst into the window, and it will appear, after, of course, you poke "enter".

Starburst is my all time fave, and it happened to be my mother's wedding dishes. I have a service for 8 in it!

Starburst Fun

This is one of my favorites too, and it was one of the dish sets I grew up with (my mom would rotate). My wife and I collected some, and a few years ago, my mom gave us her old set. We must have 15 dinner plates! A few are scratched pretty well (great for serving platters then) but most stuff is mint. My mom had the gravy boat with built in base and the spoon that goes with it. We have tons of the small plates and cups and saucers, a few divided bowls, and serving bowls.

It is a distinctive and fun pattern!

And the stamp on the understand. From what I've seen, this stamp seems a little different than the ones on ebay, but I don't enough about these dishes for it to really be an issue.

Here's the Metlox bowls. After doing some research on google I found out the name of the pattern was California Palm.

Another dish I found a few weeks ago was a Stetson platter. I haven't really done any research on this pattern, so I don't know the name.

Retromom

I absolutely love thrist store shopping! You find some of the neatest stuff! In fact, I found the perfect clock for my kitchen about 3 weeks ago at Goodwill for $3! All it needed was a little cleaning.

That's It!

Franciscan Starburst! That's the name!

A certain gorgeous friend who shall remain nameless name available on request just sent me a set of salt & pepper shakers in that pattern. It's PERFECT for my kitchen! Now I have to start buying plates!
