particularly the universal power tool type.

didn't know where to post this so i did it here.

is it possible to burn them out with a speed control? i don't think it would, as the more you think about it everything that has a speed control is universal and they almost never use induction in high powered tools, appliances etc just in fans

from what i know anyway.

and i also want to make a speed control thing (4 way knob/dimmer switch of some kind) but i want some more functionality out of it.

one: i want multiple speed Low, mid, high and max

but i also want one to short out and sort of.. go varying speeds temporarily (rev up and slow down if possible) is this possible?
along with one permanent low mode via a double on push-pull config on a dimmer switch/knob and i would like it to be a feature that's not available to the machine by default somehow limiting it at permanent mid level power without the control panel . . . . .. . . .
brainstorming
if anyone has any ideas i'd love to hear it
p.s no, i'm only an ameture hobbyist that likes the idea but has never fooled with this i'm only asking to figure out how to do it if possible.
