wonderful to hear....looking good so far.....

are you content with the dryer that far from the back wall?.....they do sell telescoping vents that will allow it to sit closer, and you can trim to fit almost flush to the wall.......either way, I would build a shelf behind the machines so things don't fall back there, as well as added shelf space for detergents...always little projects to do

keep us posted......

good idea martin

I was not aware of those type of connectors. When I did the hookup as you see, I was pissed off, tired, sore, hungry, and out of smokes. So I sorta did it down and dirty. But I certainly will look into your idea.

I can't move it to the left

as I only have 4 inches between it and the washer, give or take. I am going to pursue Martin's suggestion. In fact I found a place that sells these online in several different configurations. My local Home Cheapo does not stock them and shipping is almost as much as the part itself. Bollocks!

I use these a lot for installations, especially for areas like this, for one thing, you can't crush it if the machine is pushed too far back, seen them in about 3 sizes, and can be cut, once you get the exact placement, you can always duct tape, with real silver duct tape, any seams, but not really necessary...

I have also taken off the extension ports, one or both, making it as flat as possible....depends on how much ductwork is sticking out from the machine and wall.....adjust for your particular needs.....

there are close elbows, but you still need 4 inches behind a dryer, with these, you only need 2 inches.....and for some dryers that have the extruded back, this helps a lot...

as for your garage door opener, usually you can have these installed in about an hour yourself.....a few simple tools and a drill.......but then again, you may be so busy with other task of unpacking, and not having time for everything...

with a new place, you want to get so much done, in so little time......been there

I found this link

http://repair2000.com/ventkit.html Going for the Extra Long Periscope Vent Kit.

For the garage door opener, I have a guy coming next weds to install an assembled in Mexico (ole) Chamberlain Liftmaster belt drive for $350. Said lifetime warranty on motor and belt (ole!)The chap is local, in fact it was his name card on the garage door that led me to him. In the interest of keeping it in the NAFTA region, I elected to source from Nogales but have a local fellow do the install. He sounded pretty laid back on the phone and I have experience with a 6 year old Liftmaster belt drive (ole again) in my condo. It has worked flawlessly.

Bought a shower caddy at Lowes, using for the umteenth time, my 10 percent off. The shower/tub stall looks like the builder sourced them from the land of little people. Works perfectly fine as a shower but for a soaking hot bath...........meh, I'm 6-4 on a good day and simply won't fit. Plus the built in shelves are narrow as can be. The shower caddy fits nicely. Lets see how long it lasts before it begins to rust.

Got my first pro-rated gas bill. A whopping $16.52. Woot! Now I truly feel like a homeowner. I read more on the Goodman unit, seems in the past they had cracked heat exchangers but supposedly have rectified in recent years. The warranty sure is long and does give me some peace of mind. I know it is a complicated beast and I still cannot get over how all the heat is kept in the unit with just barely warm moist air going out my PVC vent pipe. This is my first hi eff furnace and if it works properly, holds up over time, I may just be a convert to the "new" generation of earth friendly appliances. Well almost. I will take my water guzzling SQ to the grave. Dryer too.

In the ongoing battle of Cascade vs Finish powerball, here's the dope. I used them both at the condo for over a year with the eco-sanctioned GE. Likewise here, with the BOL Frig unit, I swapped back and forth on different loads. I have the same water co so that is not a variable. Again, with a totally different DW, the cascade is superior in cleaning to the Finish powerball. Ashtrays come out spotless with Cascade Platinum 10x yadda yadda whereas the Finish leaves ash residue.

I cannot say too much negative so far on the Frig DW. While it is far more noisy than the eco-GE, it does in fact clean well. And manages to do it in roughly 50 minutes less time than it took the GE. Plus no annoying filter to clean although it does have a glass trap (see posted pics). Like the GE it boasts a mighty 1 year warranty. Still, if it does manage to hold up, and I feel like I got my use from it, I may well consider another unit like it in the future, depending on what is out there.

Cooked my first flapjacks on the glass cooktop. Managed to burn the first one as I did not realize just how quickly it heats compared to the 80's era Caloric from my condo. Once I got the burner under control, the rest of the flapjacks came out nice using "Jiffy" all purpose mix. And a tad of canola oil.

Ashtrays in the dishwasher- YUCK. My mom used to put theirs in the dishwasher when they smoked indoors (another YUCK) and with regular dishes no less! The dishwasher always smelled terrible after a load with ashtrays and I always hated to eat off of dishes for a while afterward. I once had a glass of milk at a restaurant (when smoking was still allowed, so a while back) where the glass must have shared a trip through the dishwasher with some ashtrays, and tasted like it had been stirred with a butt. I've never been much of a smoker myself, but if I did, I would never smoke indoors or in vehicles- it kills the resale value of both.

sorry...adding more ideas.......

but I have a partner 6' 4-1/2" too.....and for his stand alone shower, I added this extension piece, plus a huge 'rain shower' head that extends way over top of him.....you can turn the arm out of the wall upside down for extended reach...then again, we have 9 foot ceilings...

what is it about you tall guys......just something us short people don't understand......lol

It's always something!

You will find there is always something needing done around the house, even after years of living there...August will be 7 years in our house and there is always a new project just around the corner!..Now I hope you will have time to come to my wash-in and maybe a few car shows too...!

You know it jerry

I need to hear a gear reduction starter spinning over a 440 6 pack!

Believe me the projects

will come when the landscaping is done. Part of the sales agreement is to have the builder come smooth out the ugly results of construction, grade a swale out back to direct the water to one of two catch basins on my property, and seed the entire lot. Also he has to recover some gravel from out back that was put down temporarily and put it around the catch basins and some on my driveway.

Then I have to secure some trees. Not sure what I will put in. I do know where the sewer lines, gas line, and water line is thus NO large root trees are going there.

Then pave the driveway.

Get a concrete sidewalk poured.

By a rider.

A gas can.

Edger and weedtrimmer.

All the while finding time to do all this plus continue to perfect clean laundry in the Speed Queen.

Just as well I gave up on reloading some years back. Trap shooting has gone the way of the 8 -track but after moving 19 cases of shells, not once but twice, I will shoot it up this year for sure.

Ummm then I dunno, probably watch reruns of hee haw on youtube or netflix I guess.

>Ashtrays in the dishwasher- YUCK.

And ashtrays aren't the worst thing that might get run. I know someone who ran all sorts of bizzare things, up to and including perches from the bird cage. WITH human-use dishes. It made me cringe, even though a thorough cycle (with sanitize) was selected.

>I would never smoke indoors or in vehicles- it kills the resale value of both.

I bought a car once that had belonged to a smoker, and it was not the best decision I made. Even thought it had been cleaned, there was a scent of smoke that lingered...and lingered...and lingered...and lingered some more. It wasn't too bad if I kept the window cracked (quite viable in this mild climate). Even air through the regular heat/defrost might have been enough. But if the car sat long enough, closed up, the scent could be quite strong.
