If someone wants a Miele and are willing to bid them up, have seen units go for only slightly less than retail price. Much depends upon the units and where they are located, and of course who is interested. You just may cop the lot for $500, or pay twice or triple the amount.

Don't know about the dryer, but IIRC the W1903 was similar to the W1918, just the former had a solid door instead of porthole window.
 
Well, this washer clearly has a window door. It will use the old cycling technology of little spinning until the final rinse, so it is a little less efficient with water than the next generation like the W1986. If you have high electric rates and have a gas water heater, heating the water in the machine will consume some savings.

I don't know your air conditioning situation, but you will probably not want the heat of the dryer inside during the summer. If you can get by with having the windows open at night and can use the dryer then, you won't be having to pay to cool the air in your home twice.

Now I'm confused . . .

So I went to the Miele web site to download a manual, and the only manual I could find was for a "W1903A", but the machine appears to be only a "W1903". Are these one and the same?

The W1903A appears to be a 6KG unit from the Operating Manual. Is the W1903 only a 5KG?

You are a wealth of information. Thanks for the help. Now that I look that your report, it appears that the W 1903 was a late 1990's model. The seller on Ebay claims the machine is about 5 years old. I would say it's closer to 8 or 9.

It is possible seller purchased the machine only five years ago. Could have been old dealer stock or something. Miele tends to frown upon taking dealer stock back as they really hate to store items. Word is sometimes employees will get a chance to go for return to stock items. Can't blame Miele, who wants to ship that stuff back to Germany, and they also do not allow "outlet" sales. Stuff has to move some how.

There would be lots of W1918's still around if people did'nt take to the new 1200 series badly and decide to nab a 1900 series before they were phased out.

Seller claims they came from a NYC penthouse. This means either she/he got them off eBay or purchased them some way second hand. As I've often stated, there are lots of Miele units ripped out of tony NYC apartments that have little or no use. People install the things in apartments they spend about two weeks a year in, so how much laundry is actually done?
 
That's what I get for sleeping!!!!!

I thought it was mine but a couple of bids came in when I wasn't looking. I was already planning my trip to Dallas to pick these babies up when I realized that I had been OUT-BID!

Oh well, I'm sure I will find another. No hurry... the LG's are working beautifully!

You really cannot bid on most anything these days you REALLY want early. Just have to sit by and stay locked and loaded on sniper patrol.

Still, think had you set your bid at $1,500 or thereabouts (yes, know it's none of my business)you would have been safe. Rememember you were bidding to both the washer and dryer. About $500 each wouldn't have been that much for both.

Anywho, don't sweat it, others will come your way. Keep your eyes peeled on Craigslist as well. During my eBay trolls, will keep you in mind for Miele units on your side of the Mason-Dixon.
