Hi Mark, Thanks so much for sharing the great pictures with us. The shot with her console light and tub light on are just beautiful. I am so glad that you were able to get this fantastic set. I really enjoyed the pictures too of the dryer with the "room heater attachment" Robert has that for his Lady too and I was amazed at what a great job it did to warm up his basement. Terry

Mark this is just great! That waterfall self-cleaning lint filter return port shoots more of a water stream than I thought it would, how fun!

Hi Robert! Didn't take much to get her up and running again. We pulled the washtub and coated the outside tub with silicone. I have new bearings, donut seal, tub bolts, etc...but the machine didn't really need them so I haven't done any of that yet. When I have time, I am going to completely break it down and restore it so that it will be able to go another 40 years or so. When I got it, it had a small leak and needed a new power cord. The dryer needs nothing but cleaning. They are really cool machines....but....they are Kenmores. I took me quite a while to get rid of the suds lock. (Just ONE of the reasons that I don't care that much for Kenmore's) I used cold water Tide in cool water and WOW. LOTS OF SUDS!!! Mark

Mark I found I can prevent sudslocking my '57 Lady by using vintage Dash or Fresh Start detergent. Washing lightweight items like button down shirts, non-jean pants and sheets usually wont suds lock even with lots of billowing suds. But I avoid washing heavyweight items like thick towels in this machine, I have never been able to prevent suds locking with towels in this machine no matter what detergent I try, so its best to save those items for a Frigidaire.

I get suds lock on my 64 GE Filter-Flo,or the 58 Maytag with Cold Water Tide. Too much suds in any Tide these days... Tried them all. I can wash even heavy towels in my 65 Kenmore,with Fab,or Purex without any suds lock problems. The 56 Whirlpool will suds lock on heavy towels however,no matter what detergent is used however. The Surgilator just kicks up too much suds,so I do not use that machine for towels anymore.Sure is great for heavy blue jeans though! Towels are washed in the Filter-Flo and the 65 Kenmore around here.

Mark, those 58 Lady Kenmores are just wonderful! Glad you got them going,and were able to photograph them in action for us. Perhaps they will "grow on you" and if not,you could always "ReBay" them and get your $$$$ back.

And as the commercial says, AD or Dash with controlled suds. So run out to the A&P and get a box or two. No more suds lock!!

Actually with our 1970 Kenmore 800, towels and undies were about the only load that caused a suds lock and that was with All with Bleach, Borax, and Brighteners or Fresh Start. Since I was always with the machine watching it, when the suds lock occurred, I raised the lid and let it stop spinning and immediately started the spin again or I'd push in the timer and let it stop then restart it and no more suds lock. Got full speed spin for those spray rinses. And get this, it would kinda "suds lock" after the rinse because of Downey.

My mom had a Kenmore that looked similar to this one only it was that graceful old copper brown color and yes the lid opened the same way. As I can recall its the only time I remember ever seing a lid open that way. My sister is a lefty and so we boys teased her unrelentlessly that the laundry was her chore coz the machine was made for her..........lilttle did she know I would have gladly did the laundry!!! Infact I did when I got big enough to reach the controls.
