I love watching old TV shows, but have only 'expanded basic' analog cable which doesn't feature the oldies networks referenced here from time to time. Hazel is a classic!

Granted, Murphy Brown is more realistic and better written...but I have a soft spot for sitcoms from the 1950s-60s.

Now, how many of us watched the annual Mother's Day showing of Mildred Pierce on TCM earlier this afternoon? God, if I had a dollar for every time I've watched that movie...[this post was last edited: 5/11/2014-17:44]

I caught part of Now Voyager and am always impressed by how the credits at the start of the movie are shown against the bow of the ship and the closing credits are shown over a view of the stern. Another channel was showing Mommy Dearest, but I quickly zoomed past that trainwreck.

I even came across the sitcom "Life with Elizabeth" which was made in 1950 with Betty White of all people. You can really see how television set technology had changed over the years.

Even if you have cable, just hook up an antenna to your ATV tuner and you too can receive vintage networks!

Life with Elizabeth

According to Betty White in her book "Here We go Again", "Life With Elizabeth" was pretty much a low budget affair, filmed on one camera, so that had to do multiple takes ("by the time we had finished the poor joke was done to death") of every scene to get the various angles required.

It was spun off out a the Saturday night version of Hollywood On Television where it appeared as a one off sketch each week and I think was primarily produced as a local programme for the Los Angeles area before being sold into syndication.

Although a very simple format (it was 60 years ago) White writes about that show with a great deal more warmth than Date With The Angels which was about 3 year later and had a million dollar budget and which was relatively short lived - 13 weeks I believe, before it was nixed and they changed to a more comedy/variety format.

I actually quite like them both
