Is this the same "Murray" that made lawn mowers?
I had a couple Murray bikes when I was a kid. The Murray bikes and lawn/garden equipment were made by Murray Ohio Mfg. Co., which was based in Brentwood, TN on Hwy. US 31 (formerly Cleveland, OH), with manufacturing at the Lawrenceburg, TN (US 43) plant. I have seen both these facilities when traveling to MS. The name is now a trademark of Briggs & Stratton Co.
The Easy washing machines were made by Murray Corp. of America. This company was later known as Wallace-Murray, and also made Eljer plumbing fixtures among other items. They also made steel cabinets for Montgomery Ward at one time.
Both companies got their start in the automotive industry, supplying parts to auto makers. What connection they may have is unknown, but may be a result of someone starting a company, then selling part of it off in the early years. I couldn't verify it for these companies. So many of these old companies have some interconnection.

YUCK! Absolute garbage! As a former small engine tech I can tell you that it is a waste of resources to even make them. If you want a chewed up lawn and a broke down mower buy one. Otherwise get a Toro.

I can agree with Whirlymore78-Murray mowers are the "Low end" of lawn care equipment-sadly Toro is slipping,too.If you go with Toro try to buy a COMMERCIAL mower-NOT the household models.Used to have a newer Toro-sold the thing becuase I HATED it.Replaced one that got stolen(the stolen one was GREAT!)-and the replacement came from a Toro dealer.Should have spent the extra and got the commercial one.Seems like its HARD to find a good walk mower these days with a gas motor-now gone to rechargeable mowers-MUCH better!The VINTAGE mowers were the best!But in my area-like older appliances-hard to find becuase of the humid,abrasive conditions-the machine abrade and rust away.Now "Murray" is MTD Products-ANY company they take over-kinda like WCI is the kiss of DEATH!!Oh yes-the Toro cordless mower I have isn't real good either-its blade HAS NO LIFT-so the cut quality is TERRIBLE!!!A Homelite,Greenworks,and Black&Decker mowers do a MUCH better job!
I agree that Murray mowers aren't so great. One of my neighbors has one - guess she got it because it was cheap, and it doesn't mow well, or run good.
We had a couple Murray made riding mowers that my dad bought, one was branded Craftsman. They were OK, but nothing spectacular. The Craftsman was the one I used until it blew up. I then got the JD push mower.
