Kenmore Elite 400w stand mixer.

I've been toying with the idea of getting the mini but didnt want to spend the money. This was perfect timing.

I wish I could find a teardown instruction or video.

Also, does anyone have a list of what bowls, paddles, whips and dough hooks fit what models of KitchenAid?

There are some nice touches that I wish KitchenAid had on their units. The worklight is awesome, that should be a no-brainer, the tilt mechanism lever has a spring in it so no matter if you are tilting or parking the head, the lever locks back into place automatically. Also, I love the knob. Using this unit just seems so natural.

I will say I have one of the older ones of the lineup because this one is louder than a lot of units and after some reading it was discovered that the older ones didn't have as much noise insulation.

I just wish I could find a teardown on it.

Also, I wish buying work bowls, beaters etc was easier. I have a commercial 7 qt KitchenAid and I would like to buy some replacement pieces and can't easily tell what fits and doesn't fit. I assume the 7 qt bowl is just taller than a 6 qt bowl and shorter than the 7 qt bowl but all have the same center depths? IDK I guess.

I did read that K45 and KSM150 pieces will fit the Kenmore so I'm gonna order a scraper beater from New Metro and see if I can find a whip that has a stainless mount point so I can put it in the dishwasher. Might also get a glass or ceramic bowl as well. LOVEEE the 3qt bowl though, thats why I wanted it.

So I was determined...

I had been thinking about how to tear this thing open all day. Watched videos on servicematters and kept searching. I stumbled upon an ebay auction for the bowl-lift version and noticed the band was gone and thought "I bet if I got the knob of the damn thing would open up". Well sure enough.

Kenmore or Whirlpool really did not want anyone taking these units apart. They definitely feel better built than the Artisian because of how they wanted to keep people out of them. I didn't show taking the base off, but there is a solid plate you have to remove, then two c clips on the pivot pin and the torx set screw. After that, I thought I could get to the motor. Nope, the holes in the mold were sealed shut.

So I started prying on the knob and it wasn't budging, I pressed on the center of the knob and could feel a slight movement. I bet this is a sticker. Yup. Got a blade out to peel back the sticker and it all fell into place.

I really wish they would have just mounted the band like they do on every other model, but they really did not want it to be disassembled. They used double-sided sticky tape on the band so it would bend when it came off. I tried to be as gentle as possible but you can tell I've opened it.
Anyways, I read several service manuals on servicematters, this unit is definitely a custom spec'd unit. It is a brushed motor with a digital control and a hall sensor.

The reason I wanted to take it apart was because there was a rattle on the inside when you tilted it. I was afraid something would get lodged in the fan. Well with me tipping it over so many times wouldn't you know the rattle stopped? So I'm like great, its stuck somewhere. I had to find what was loose. I was looking at the lid and saw a plastic piece, it was a grease port cover for the gear box. I popped it back in place and that was that.

I did notice they have two fans on the armature. That is pretty impressive.

Anyways, I figured I would take some pics. (This is for the 100.8900890A, 1008900890A, 890089, 100.8910890A and 100.8920890A models.)

So i figure instead of starting a new thread i would just add to this one.

I need to stay the hell off Facebook marketplace.

I found a kitchenaid artisan mixer for $10. I was looking at a lamp they posted and saw more stuff when I got there.

I got the le creuset for 50 cents....

I found some blue cornflower casseroles and some other pans for 50 cents each.

My entire haul was less than $40.

I'll post more pics when I get everything unboxed.

Nice mixer! I really like the LED bowl light and the speed dial.

I'm not certain, but although these look a lot like KitchenAids, I don't believe they are made by Whirlpool. I believe they are made by Electrolux (Frigidaire). I have a Kenmore Elite toaster and it has the same 100. prefix to the model number. I believe all of Kenmore's small appliances are custom spec'd though, none of them bare resemblance to any other brands.

wow swag light?

they are hard to find. Unfortunately passed up one last week in Nashville. Habitat Restore/ now wish I bought it . Got a deal on 2 mostly solid oak nightstand 75% off.
