My AEG 74640 videos

Hey guys,
Well you've seen my Vintage collection, heres my daily driver my AEG 74640 1400rpm. I did a brief vid a while back, now i've put one of the wash,rinse & spins together.

Hope you enjoy it. I've had this machine 3 years and i love it. It cleans brilliantly and also lets me mess around with the waterlevels! I can either run it on its standard eco settings as in this video; or when Rinse + is selected i get high rinse levels.

The only downfall being i dont get 1200rpm intermitten spin speeds, they are replaced by 700rpm which annoys me as wouldn't it be far more effective for it to still spin at 1200 but use abit more water? hmm the mind boggles.

Nice video Darren. Still amazing how seeming as our washers come out the same range they differ so much. Wish mine did the spin rinsing.

I agree with you to a point - if you press Sensitive on mine it does high rinse levels but no interim spins - surely the rinse results would be better if there was high level rinses AND interim spins!

I meant to say, no interim spins after the wash or the first rinse. You know wha tI mean anyway as you've seen it for yourself plenty of times.

Thanks, great videos. Your AEG is very different from mine (an Öko Lavamat 6450). I can't make mine use high water levels on the Cottons cycle. :-(

Thanks for the compliment! I'd love to see some more of your aeg. I've never been lucky enough to see one of those models working. I did modify that rinse but had i selected rinse + that would've been the level it would have used! especially cause of the amount of suds that didnt seem to be going anywhere lol!

Here's the link to a picture of my AEG. Mine doesn't have a rinse+ button. I complained often to Jonathan about that. LOL Because of the low water level I use it mostly for small loads. I have very thick bath towels, I hate washing them in this machine.

Oh! I thort these machines were meant to be real good despite low levels?! do they even reach the door? When i lived at my previous house with my housemate we had a bosch that was extremely low. If i didnt stand over it and pour water in the drawer or run the seperate rinses which were high, i'd only wash a few things at a time it was cringeworthy! lol

Thanks for the vids, looks a splashy action machine, I road tested Johns L88810 and was surprised how good a spray the jet gave...

The more I use new front loaders with low water levels the more IMHO I DONT want a spin straight after the wash, it causes just too much froth n sudz & usually a slurpy sudzlock...(even if the water looked near clear on the wash..)

How much/what type of powder did you use??your water in Lincoln is very soft isnt it??

I saw a vid and was talking to the other Darren from Lincoln, about his 1950 Bendix, he used one Daz tablet on a full 9lb load of whites and there was foam everywhere ...LOL

Hey Mike,

Yeah I find the jet is really good in my AEG too - seems to soak the load down well, and though it can make the rinsing a bit frothy and dumps residual suds left over in the pump down the window when it starts recirculating on a rinse, it really is a good feature. I wouldn't say it improves rinsing per se - just makes them more interesting to watch . Mind you it's also good if your washing stuff like duvets & pillows, cos even with low level rinses the heart of those loads are soaked down.

Darren's here right now and we both laughed at your soft water comment - tis harder than a thug from Bradford! If you use anything less than 2 tablets or a full scoop cleaning really is compromised. Not to mention the limescale! It's not uncommon to see machines round here with limescale build up around the door seal and around the edge of the glass doors.

I'm not sure if I agree with you in terms of wash spinning - I personally find them really effective and they do a lot of the soap and suds out before rinsing really starts but they can indeed be a lethal combination with P&G tablets! (Which Darren told me was what he used earlier for his "30 degree challenge" in the form of Ariel Sensitive). Mind you the Sensitive button on my AEG does 5 rinses without a spin after the wash and rinse 1 and more often than not the water is clear in the 2nd or 3rd rinse.

Hey you two..have just realised why Darrens water was so soft...he has a water softner fitted...LOL

Have got the powder, will "Do a Challenge" myself on the next wash...I have noticed that the MaytAsko only takes 2 mins to raise the temp from 30d to 40d, wasnt eco friendly today, did a 50d lights and an 80d whites, I suppose I was good it could have been 95...LOL

Yep, I've noticed that there's only 2 mins in cycle time difference between 30 and 40 on my AEG, and the cycle time for 30 and 40 is the same on the Miele. I think though I threw any energy savings out the window by using the dryer for all 4 loads yesterday!!

Adam; I use this machine alot yea. its one of few modern machines i've had that i've not gotten to tired of in 3 years and 4months of ownership.

the spinrinse is super entertainin i've bin tryin for ages now to try n get a spin rinse on a colours load but it only seems to do it on a towel load, sheets or a a jeans load.

Mike: I love that pic of that AEG! Do you have anymore of the 'test drive'

Jon & mike: My only pet hate about the jet is it spents all tht time rinsing and spinnin only to dump redisue all over freshly rinsed stoof! it annoys meeee!

I've found when i use my AEG now that i use the 2 hour cycles without rinse + so i can get 1200rpm, and i just fill it up with a jug. So i get my mix of water and high extraction. cuz im fussy go on you can say it lol and if i use quick wash without rinse + it does 2 high level rinses. but thats not enough for me so i run it through a seperate rinse after leavin it to do a few minutes of the final spin...thats usually quite effective
