My childhood washer comes home!

How many people can say that they have their childhood washer? Straight out of the trenches,(my parents laundry room) may I present to you..The Whirlpool LDA5800w2. I loved listening to this thing "woo woo" from my room... it stopped draining about a month ago (first issue it has ever had) I suspect the belt is worn as I recall recently be at my dads house and hearing it screach when it went to spin. Have not even looked at it yet..belt is still intact, and everything turns freely..more to come when I tear into it....need you date guru's to decipher the exact date of maufacture..

How fun to have the exact same washer directly from your childhood!

 

I would suspect the no-drain or slow-drain issue is more likely the pump rather than the belt.   Even if the belt was worn or loose and the pump is OK, it would still drain.  That is unless the belt is SO loose you can remove w/o loosening anything.

I had that machine once, I altered it a bit, and used a 4port pump, with the bigger bed-of-nails filter....

congratulation there are 2 washers I remember from my childhood that would be my choice if I ever went vintage 1 its the washer dryer set my mom purchase when she was pregnant with me inglis superb with the brush filter it also had the liqid fabric dispenser mounted on top the agitator brand inglis second was my grandmother inglis liberator washer 5 wash rinse temp push to start pull to stop

It's great your Dad still had it, and
you were able to take it home. I've
got a lot of vintage from my parents,
but unfortunately, no appliances. They
got all used up and put out to trash.

Very fortunate and lucky to be able to have your childhood washer. Very, very nice. Would think anyone would be proud to have it. Hope you can get it up and running very soon. I'd be polishing it up.

Your lucky to have it! We had a GE filter flo growing up and I’m sure I was the one who broke it.
I put my sneakers and toys in it and turned it on from what I can remember. I can just kick myself for doing that!

That you got your actual childhood Whirlpool washer from your parents! It's even amazing that they still had the washer after all this time! It was meant to be yours when you got all growed up!

I believe Whirlpool is the first washer I actually remember my mom having. And it was white too, with the black control panel. But I can't remember if it had all knobs or buttons & knobs?

I know that she had an avocado green Hoover twintub, that got traded to her and passed down to aunts along the way, but I don't remember us having the Hoover twintub. When I remember the Hoover twintub, my aunt (who had it after us) was the one who had it and I remember, either her or my grandma, using it at the kitchen sink. I was very young at that time.

a sad day..

After some exploration and investigation, I found my poor childhood washer was a mess!! The center post was completely rotted out and leaking onto the baseplate. I honestly dont think there was anything I could do short of getting a donor machine and turning it into a Frankenpool..lol (sorry for the lack of pics, it was just too sad) so I decided to let it go.. it was a tough call but I think it was the right one. After all of this, I decided I needed a "rebound washer" there will be a new thread soon!!
