As a new member, I would like to share my story. First of all, I joined a few years back, but only now got around to introduce myself. I was born in 1980. At that time, my mother had a GE V14 set (I only remembered the black agitator it had). In 1983, my father gave the washer to a friend, and bought mama a Citation by Norge, which also had a black agitator and a timer with inclusive temperature control. A few years back, I inquired about a machine my aunt had; it was indeed a Wizard, similar to the Canadian Viking most of us have seen here, but the top of the agitator was different than that of the Viking. In 1985, her Wizard quit, and so dad gave her the Citation, and bought mama a GE--which I hated!
Why? Because it was as BOL as they get. It was a single speed washer with no Filter-Flo, a fixed water level, warm wash and a cold rinse. It had the most boring timer you may ever see, with a 10-minute wash, spin, rinse, and spin. Inside was a blue 4-fin agitator I called "Ol' Finny", which I also despised. Btw, this was the only blue agitator I ever seen in a GE wit a SNAP-ON Activator cap. Finally in 1992, Mama got a new Amana set, which lasted her a long time.
Today as a homeowner myself, I have a 2003 Whirlpool DD Super Capacity washer that has a 5-fin Surgilator with lint filter and fabric softener dispenser. Although I love GE washers best, these DD washers are excellent daily drivers. They are the best for the durability and capacity; and although they do need repairs from time to time, they are easy to repair, and the parts are readily availible. The matching dryer has an oven-style door and interior drum light. Like the washer, it's just as easy to repair.
I would like to own a GE V-14 set someday, but I don't have anywhere to put them right now. If anyone has a spare black V14 agitator with filter to sell, I will pay a decent price. I would also like a six-fin Activator and a blue ramp activator, although I think that one is sort of rare.
In closing, as a child, people around me thought I was weird for having an interest in washing machines. Yet I had interests in things boys should like, like wrestling, sports, cars, video games, and later on, girls... I always believed I wasn't the only one who liked washing machines, and here, I feel right at home. I am also not ashamed to admit I have Asperger's Syndrome. Many people said I wouldn't amount to anything, but I've been driving an 18-wheeler for over 12 years now; and I do a fantastic job at that!
Take care my friends, and may God bless you!
