My Detergents Arrived

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I've never underestood the need/fascination with having a varietyt of detergents as I see it totally superflous and a waste of funds. Always had just one brand of detergent at a time and it was usually the same brand for years. The only reason it changed to having two (see my post above) is because I expanded to adding powdered Tide w/bleach alternative was because I started having front loaders with onboard heaters raising wash temps to 140-150F degrees and taking advantage of oxygen bleach prowess. Same with fabric softeners and chlorine bleach when I did use it--which hasn't been since 2010 with the WP Duet HT.

The Tide Professional really stinks up the house if you use too much or don't opt for a 2nd or 3rd rinse. Some people like that whereas I don't. I'll slowly work my way through the box but never use it on bedding again where my nose was pressed up against the pillow.. It does very well in cold water. I'm thinnking of giving some samples to my neighbor to see what she thinks of it. She's a fragrance lover who likes things like Glade plug ins etc

Bob, I thought you didn't like minimalist things. I'm surprised you stick to one detergent when each has its own function, purpose, fragrance and personality. One detergent gets boring, fragrances stop being noticed when always the same and some detergents clean particular loads better than others. Variety works the best.

@petek- What does Tide professional smell like? Is it possible your using to much since its a real concentrated detergent?

Chet, I grew up with mom basicallyt using what didn't cause my skin to break out even with pouring detergent into measuring cup. We settled on All with BBB and then Fresh Start. I don't switch detergents often. I stick with one that works well. Tide came into reality because it wasn't such a financial burden to use as welll as laundry needs needed that power. And I've stuck with Tide pretty much except for trying Persil once but suds was too outlandish. When the Duet died November 2021, I no longer had liquid auto dispenser and returned to powder when liquids were finally used up. And that was the 2 Tide Powders. And I find powders far easier to accurately measure than liquids.

I hear you, fragrances do the same for me. One outlier which was bad, and I mean bad in every way was Tide With Bleach in the early 2000s. The rashes and hives it gave me was unreal.  No idea what was in it, or why, but it was bad. Like had to go to the ER/doc and gets a prescription bad until we found out it was the Tide doing it. Switched to Dreft for a while no problem before going to regular Tide than Free and Clear.

Bob, what type and make of washer do you have now?

Unless I ask, I wouldn't know Bob uses his heater often. I personally don't know why another person not knowing something makes others so upset but it sure doesn't help the person on the receiving end of it. I think history has shown where this ultimately ends. All people should be clam and happy to answer questions even if its obvious to others. I will never know Bob's stance on heaters unless I ask, and in not asking I would continue to not know.

I personally think all front loads and H axis machines should have heaters, even those which do not spin dry. Heat the water from cold to a target temperature.

Chet, it seems you don't read topics that aren't within your at-the-moment interest.  There have been many discussions for years of Bob's switch from his infamous Lady Shredmore toploader to a Frigidaire frontloader, then a Whirlpool Duet with heater, now an LG, his laundry methods, etc.

Some of it predates your registered membership (3/11/2013, assuming you didn't read/lurk before then), but plenty has been discussed since then.

I can only read one thread at a time, and I'm busy at times in between. Not that I think this forum is beneath me, no disrespect toward anyone, however I also had other urgent things to tend to that were of importance to living, so I am not always reading this forum. Again, this is not out of disrespect or that I think this forum is below anyone, rather vagaries and activities of daily living that needed to be tended to in order to be able to post on this forum in the first place. That and my health wavers on top of everything, so at no fault of my own my participation on this forum has been sporadic/intermittent over the years. Even though I love the topics discussed here. No offense to anyone, my intent is not to devalue anything discussed here. I participate and read when I am able to do so. When my health and time permits me, I am here.

I will keep my eyes open for threads in which Bob discusses using the heater on his front load.

I do remember Bob's Kenmore being mentioned.

Chet, the Frigidaire front loader didn't have an onboard heater, but I was thrilled to finally have afront loader. The Duet was terrific. It had a steam generator. It also had the ability to do a profile wash combining onboard heater and ending with steam and temps would be from 85 or 90F and end up by the end of the steam phase 155F to 158F

The LG I do a cold prewash and then I have a cycle with extremely long main wash and extra hot temperature and by the end of the wash phasse temps can range from 155F to 162F. I don't care how long the cycle is because thsi is a load that has numerous cloth items with all sorts of food stains that can sit for up to a month and those extra hot temps deal with everyone of those food stains with powdered Biz & Tide w/Bleach alternative. Warm has a set point temp of 90F and hot is a paltry, pathetic 112F. I just use Santize cycle and various soil level selections to yield wash temps of anywhere from 135F to 162F as I need. TuboWash feature is terrific. Allows spin spray rinses in addition to typical deep rinses. And I can opt for up to 4 or 5 total rinses depending upon cycle. I"m in control of water temps I want easily as well as amount of rinsing. Same with my Bosch dishwasher. And I've nevr had odor issues with my front loaders.

Chet, I hope I didn`t offend you. Some members are indeed only interested in a small range of topics, so I believe you even though it`s hard to believe because you`re not a new member and because you`re also a frequent poster.

But think of someone seriously asking you if you liked mechanical timers or appliance simplicity in general wouldn`t you find it kind of disrespectful too? [this post was last edited: 7/7/2024-04:53]

People can not and should not take others limitations or cognitive abilities as a sign of disrespect, rudeness, laziness, or self importance. It is not healthy to view all human behavior through the lens of ego or the dark triad. That is utterly not what is happening. People do well if they can. There is no egocentric conspiracy. Which is why everyone should hold tolerance for others imperfections and limitations.

With that said, anyone who knows me knows me knows I've posted the wiring diagram to my Speed Queen washer numerous times on this forum. Today a long standing member from 2007 with more posts than me asked for that same wiring diagram today:

I am not the least bit offended, in fact I am delighted to post it again. Chances are Dan hasn't read all my posts and missed the ones where I had posted that same wiring diagram. No harm done.

A Bob load is when you pack a load into a dishwasher to the point where there is physically no room for other dishes/utensils yet everything is still able to come out spotlessly clean. I've seen those threads. And how the name came from Bob as he is the one who started the concept.

Bob do you have pictures of your washer? Does the heating only occur certain cycles like sanitize and Turbo or is there a separate option that can forces heating? I think all FL cycles except a select few ought to be heated. I don't like how US front loaders don't heat the water in many cycles or just don't have a heater. Its why I stick to TL washers because you can let your water heater give you a true stable hot wash.

Louis: I just want to get one thing clear since was have each others attention. A microwave oven with even heating does not require power levels or a turn table. My 1000 watt flat bead Sharp does not burn food or heat it unevenly- far the opposite. I've explained this in several threads but you kept posting that you'd never use a microwave with one power level (and insinuated my Sharp was primitive) because it would burn food and you received many upvotes in the process. My point is perceived selective reading/hearing can be argued as going both ways on this forum. I've explained things like this many of times and people still say the opposite or don't believe me. This is further compounded by the fact people block me (and others) any time the read something they disagree with or don't like. I can handle my appliances being called primitive, but when I speak on the poor engineering, short life or superfluous complexity of another appliance I'm labelled as being a bad source and put on an ignore list.
