hello boys im wondering if anyone can help i have an electrolux aqualux 1200 model ewd 12141 washer dryer, and the dryer part is absolutely rubbish it takes over 4 hours to get anything remotely dry is this usual or is there a fault with the machine which is incidentally less than a year old and it is only me that has used it. I like the machine it washes,rinses and spins well. I just wish it would dry any advice greatly appreciated thankyou ian.

Washer dryers are inherently slow at drying but 4 hours is definitely to long. Please remember that a washer dryer (Combo to our American friends) can only dry half a full wash load; this is due to the limited room in the drum.
As you say the machine is less that 12 months old I would recommend you call Electrolux service and have the machine checked out.

Well think of a washer-dryer as a washing machine with a hairdryer attached to the drum!
Most of them are completely useless
Our cheapo whirlpool washer dryer is an OK washing machine, but the dryer is ridiculous. It takes hours to dry clothes and it manages to almost burn them too. I've never seen a dryer get THAT hot before.
Also, everything comes out smelling like the inside of a washing machine i.e. kinda roasted door seal.
Washer dryers are really only useful for emergencies - other than that they're a complete waste of money in my opinion. You're far better off to get a cheap standard tumble dryer.

Your graphic description of the smell of clothes dried in a washer dryer just brought back vivid memories. I used to rent a flat in Bedford and rented a Whirlpool washer dryer and roasted door seal is exactly how it smells. The problem with them is that first, the heater has to dry the inside of the machine before it gets to work on the clothes. I never found out but they must gobble electricity at a frightening rate. I picked up a second hand half size hotpoint dryer in the end as I got sick of it.

I have 2 washer/dryers when used properly they are fairly good. Though admittedly if their is room for seperates it is much better to have them. I do have a tumble dryer, but i always liked washer/dryers. Their obvious downfall is the lack of space, but with machines that can now hold 8kgs room to dry can only improve. As may washerdryers overall.
My zanussi turbodry WDT1061 manages to dry after a 1000rpm spin in roughly an hour. My hoover newwave 1400 washerdryer does take slightly longer.
The smell. Could be described as hot fabric softener mixed with rubber lol. Its not too bad as long as you allow your machine to breath with the door open.

I've got a 5-year old LG Compact Washer/Dryer Combo, that uses Condensor Drying and as mentioned by David {2DrumsAllergy}that you have to split any larger Loads for Drying. The way that I've gotten around that however is that I've got a Portable Whirlpool/Kenmore Dryer sitting on top of my LG Combo. After the Wash Cycle completes, I give the Laundry another extra 1400-RPM Spin and that even helps with my Portable Dryer, at lowering the length of Drying time, even somewhat with heavier item Loads. I still once in a while do a complete Wash & Dry in the Combo, but I start it before going to Bed and the Laundry is done when I get up the next Day. I do only a Wash & Dry of any Laundry that I don't care about getting wrinkled and the total time for Washing, Drying and the Cool-Down takes about 7-hours. Mind you, that both of my Machines operate only on 110-Volts/AC Electricity.
Good luck with getting your Washer/Dryer sorted and operating better for you. Is a separate Dryer stacked on top of your Combo an alternate way to go for doing Laundry?

When i had a ariston washer/dryer that spun at 1200 as long as you split the load you'd be looking at it taking around 1hr 30 mins to dry completely towels on the other hand were a different story they would take a whopping 150 mins to dry 3 bath sheets but that was washed and dryed overnight.
As far as electric consumption goes my ariston used very little electric to wash and dry i actually found that when it broke and i bought separately, a bosch washer and a hotpoint dryer my electric went up beacause of the dryer, but then the dryer did use 5.1 units of electric per full load compared to the siemens ive got now which uses half the electric and done in half the time!

From what some of you are saying, WD have improved over the years. Certainly seems that drying capacity has gone up, used to be a half load but I see in the latest Argos catalogue that some WD range from 2.5 to 5 kilo drying capacity, both Servis, which is pretty good.

Thankyou once again for more feedback guys id love a seperate dryer but simply dont gave the space as it is a small flat. All appliances are new and built in to an open plan living space. But like i say space is limited so i think thats why they installed a W/D but thats modern city life in london for you. which i wouldnt change for the world but id just like somewhere a little bigger another bedroom perhaps,a seperate dryer of course LOL.

I have a 3 year old AEG washer dryer. (same manufacturer as Electrolux) and have to say it is top notch for drying. Yes you can only do half a load but the clothes come out crease free and softer than my separate Zanussi Dryer.
It is a turbo dry model and does the job well.

I'm sure there are washer-dryers out there that actually do do a good job as dryers, but I suspect the cheaper ones are pretty much useless.
Most are not much more than a washing machine with a fan-heater bolted to the top of the drum blowing air in along the top of the door.
I actually think you could potentially get much better washer-dryer results in some of these new machines with the large drum capacity i.e. 8kg+
Haven't seen any washer-dryer versions yet though.

It's been my experience that if a machine works miserably within the first year of it's life, it's almost always an installation issue. Something's not right about how it's installed.
If it's vented, the vent hose is most likely kinked. If it's a condenser dryer, perhaps the inlet valve for the cold water was not plumbed correctly.
In any event, 4 hours to dry is wrong, and my crystal ball tells me it's not the machine, but the installation which is to blame. Perhaps adequate space around the blower opening was not allowed. In any case, I'll bet you a dollar (ok, a Euro) that the machine is fine.
I have an Equator EZ1000 washer/dryer and it works wonderfully and drys properly in about one hour.
Check to see if both legs of the power are working. In USA we use two big fuses on our 240 volt machines...one can go bad and the machine will still run, but won't heat properly.
Perhaps your machine is not getting it's full operating voltage.
