Time to reveal here, this is my 1998 Hotpoint WD61N, the youngest machine I will keep in my collection. As you can see this machine has been cared for and the interior reflects that (no carbon dust, no black goo in the condenser). It must have been in a holiday home as it appears hardly used and no service dates are scribbled into it. It was threw out over a £10 part can you believe it a pump. It functions very well, gets towels dry in 60 mins if spun dry in a Hotpoint spinner one has. I was instantly brought back to my childhood when using this machine as my Aunt had a WD22 (last years range, 1996). This machine is basically that in sweeping Natural Linen and Calico clothing. I'm so chuffed with it and more photos and videos will be done tomorrow.

Bye for now!

James.

OMG!!!!!!!

I had the machine, scrap, for a jar of jam! I am soooooo regreting getting rid of mine!

Mine had a few bits taken out of it!Grrrr.....

And the plastic in the door was smashed so the blokie who had it ripped the perspex out of the door. it is now my laundary basket for the candy!

I kept other parts, panel & draw, sump hose, waste hose but not the pump, blocked with who knows what. R.I.P hottie.

Hotpoint

Excellent find James, and a great first auto washer/dryer, always use the spinner for maximum extraction , you dont want mega bills!!

Can you whip the lid off (after switching off at mains and pulling the plug out) and take a pic of the workings please?? would like to see whats changed from the first blower condensers etc..

Cheers, Mike

Christopher...

What was missing from your machine or what was wrong with it? I see that your's has an Indesit FHP motor and not the classic Hotpoint GDA one. Could suggest that your's is younger than mine. You also have different timer cover sheet and are missing a rear spring. Heat shield's are also available as a spare part for £10.

Mike here are a few picture's of mine with the top and rear panel's off. Hotpoint had called this condenser the MK2 Condenser so older machine's must have differed somewhat but how?

The condenser. The novel idea that I found out today was that everytime the machine filled for rinse is that a secondary jet flushed the condenser! So that's why they recommended in the handbook to put the machine through rinse & spin once every so often.

Well well well James!

Well, what can I say! Lovely colour, my grandparents had a Hotpoint WMA34 in the very nice colour yours is! I myself would very much like one of these, one of the last proper Hotpoints! I would like a WD61, WD62 or a WD64!

Congrats once again James!

Hotpoint Washer Dryers

Great photos James, you can deffo see the size of the drum is larger than the original 9900 series made from enamel.... the condenser unit has changed a lot...

Heres a fun one, I attended a Hotpoint Trade Show last year and on the stand was a new product merchandiser, they had three exhibits for a raffle and where asking everyone to "Guess" what the items where, well I looked at one and said " Original Hotpoint 9900 series heater unit form a washer dryer" to which our account manager who was hidden behind the stand shouted "OMG Thats gorra Be Mike King - No one else could possibly know that" ...LOl[this post was last edited: 10/17/2011-14:46]

Christopher, Mike...

That's an FHP motor, the brush holders are mean't to be black.

Mike, did you take any pictures of the inside of your 9900? I know it has an enamel tub and non induction fan motor. Very weird for Hotpoint to bring back the enamel tub just for the washer/dryers as they were well and truely phased out by 1984. Did Hotpoint not trust themselves in using plastic for the tub until later? I have yet to see the interior of a Hoover and Servis washer/dryer. Hoover made ones that had to vented didn't they?

James.
