My first automatic collection piece...

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

James, a great buy here! I love these old Hotpoints, but I can't have a collection (because I live in a terraced house). Aren't these mechanically similar to the 80's Hotpoint washer dryers? I am saying this because my nana had a 800 spin 95 series Hotpoint washer dryer that looked the same inside. Is it hot and cold fill?

Buy?

I got it for free and only had to buy a £10 pump for it! Nice deal!

Well, yes and no in a way. pre 90's washer/dryers had a slightly different condensor, heater and fan set up as well has the timer but apart from that then yes it is similar. My Aunt had a WD22 which I adored and this is it in cream designer clothing! This will be my example from the last classic range and will be my youngest automatic. H&C of course!

James.

James...

What a fab machine, again!

Laundromat about the Made in China, Hotpoint were made in Great Britain and were bought by Indesit in 2004. For the next few years, the newer machines were still made in Britain, but have more recently been produced in Italy.

Hotpoint WD61 condenser

Hi, I'm new to this site and would firstly like to thank 'supermaticjames' for posting these pictures. Without them I had been unable to identify the name of the part I need for my washer/dryer, a condenser. Its the parts where it attaches that have worn through with the vibration of the machine. I have used two large washers eitherside of the worn bit and bolted it through as a temporary measure which seems to work ok for now.

I am pretty good with tackling this sort of job but does anyone know where I can buy one a a reasonable price? I have found two websites and both are around the £60 mark (+ postage... ouch!) but both are sold out anyway.

I love this machine and would rather repare than replace if it's possble.

many thanks

Jacob

Indesit bought 1/2 of Hotpoint on 21 December 2001 and Hotpoints were always made in Wales and during the WMA era the Hotpoints from 2002 onwards were indesit aka merloni owned.

Janak,

One thing I absolutely loath is when people call out others like you did with Jacob.

Wales is part of Great Britain therefore you were both right about where Hotpoint washing machines were manufactured. All machines - 18 series, 95 series, WM series, WMA series and subsequent were manufactured there until 2009 when production was moved entirely to Italy and as far as I'm aware Poland.

As for the takeover of Hotpoint, yes Indesit (Merloni Elettrodomestici) bought a 50% share in 2001 but the full takeover didn't happen until 2005. The WMA series was not a Merloni design and they were produced by Hotpoint in the UK and under their own control - Merloni basically just ran off with the profits until the full takeover and the first Merloni influenced design was introduced - the WF series.

It pays to do your research,

James

I thought Hotpoint were made in Peterborough? I briefly owned a Hotpoint 95 series machine and it had Hotpoint, Peterborough Limited unless that was where Head Office was and not the production plant. Real shame we don't make Hotpoint anymore.

Real shame we don't make Hotpoint anymore

It's a shame we don't make anything anymore. It'll be interesting to see if Ebac pull it out of the bag when they launch in September - it's all well and good being made in England, but if the product is rubbish it has no chance.

@liberatordeluxe

Hotpoint head office was in Peterborough where some appliances were built but the washing machines were built in Wales since the 1970s as far as I know.

@aquacycle

I'm also eager to see how Ebac get on in a market that's swimming with Hotpoint/Indesit, Hoover/Candy and Beko but it will "all come out in the wash" I guess.
