Hi guys,

I picked this WMA64N up last weekend, turns out the sump was blocked and it runs like new. Its so quiet when spinning even though its not Super Silent. Its missing its kick plate. I am in two minds about whether to keep it or not because although its a proper British Hotpoint it isn't really classic is it or will it be in future?

Morning james, its a keeper, a flavour of the future past!!, will be interested to see quickest time you can programme a 40d cottons fast max spin in?

A friend of mine bought this after the 6030 Servis Quartz and hated it, because of the long wash times compared to the Quartz...saying that its still going strong with no probs...

My Suggestion

Keep it! Whilst it may not be a classic (yet), it may be sometime in the future: A look back on the earliest digital control models (among other details). It may also be quite good at washing clothes, which is another benefit to the collector, even if it isn't, I'm sure you've got other machines. Perhaps you should try and find another to keep for parts, if the controls in this should fail?

 

This one is also quite a looker - shame its missing the kickplate, as any replacement you find will have a slightly different shade to it (because of temperature/humidity conditions in the machine's environment and yellowing).

Totally agree with what Mike and Washer111 have said.
Its in really good condition and, in another 10 to 15 years time, people will be missing machines just like this.
You have managed to get one that is very tidy and pretty much top of the range and by keeping this one, will probably save you the hassle of hunting for one in the future.

It is not a british hotpoint. It's a 2002 one and it's one of the first ones to be owned by Indesit Company aka Merloni.

Sorry Janak but this IS a British Hotpoint - they didn't stamp "Made in Great Britain" on the fascia for a laugh did they?

Regardless of what year it was built the WMA series were designed and introduced in 1999 before Indesit had any interest in Hotpoint and subsequently this one was built when Indesit only had a 50% share.

This is a British design, manufactured in Britain by a British company of which Indesit had a 50% share.

If you have nothing constructive to post on a 3 year old thread then don't bother - it takes up valuable screen space on this busy section of the forum.

James - The WMA series were introduced in June 2000.

Hi Janak,

Sorry but the first WMA models were slowly introduced in Autumn 1999 and sold alongside the WM series before being made available to the masses. I remember the Autumn/Winter edition of the Argos catalogue in 1999 having a selection of WMA models in it. It seems that nobody here can provide a definite date of introduction for the WMA series but perhaps the guys over on the UK Whitegoods forum can give you that answer.

Actually the WMA range certainly only came out in June 2000 with them going widespread in september that year.

Argos did not sell appliances until 2001 ~ the first catalogue had the yellow buttoned zanussi aqua cycles along with the FEW 10 first edition 1000/1200.

Thanks for clearing this up! I always thought it was 1999 because of the WMs being sold alongside them and the vague memory of this catalogue which must have been from 2001 or later now.

June 2000 it is then!
