I no longer suffer the stigma of Washin Virgin.
First, I'd like to thank our lovely hosts Jeff and Cal for opening up their home and hearts. Not to mention the garage and the warehouse!
The pre-washin festivities consisted of a tour of The Museum. Unfortunately, I was so in awe of everything that I completely forgot to take pictures! But some of the things I saw were:
Maytag and Kenmore combos; a pair of harvest gold Space Mates that had me slobbering all over the floor; a 1960-ish Lady Kenmore with multicolored rocker switches that would've sent Bob over the edge; an early Speed Queen dryer with the world's most accessible lint filter; the very first (I think) KitchenAid dishwasher; the NIB Blackstone dryer. And more. So much more... I can't begin to remember half of it!
The star of the evening was a Westinghouse L-2 from 1947. There's a story behind it, but I'll let Jeff tell it since it's his. I've posted a few pictures (see below.) Snagged a bit of video too, but the quality isn't great.
My own personal fave was the fabboo Philco/Bendix coin-op that Jeff got MIB! Now there's some washtime drama for you!
The evening just FLEW by. I couldn't believe it. Good thing I checked the time, otherwise I'd still be there.
I always heard washins were fun. Now I know how much!
