Today, now that the RTV silicone on my Frigidaire-adapted drain hoses has been able to properly cure, I moved the WO-65-2 (courtesy of our neighborhood webmaster!)down to the shed, leveled it into position, and connected everything. I had the Tide and plenty of laundry to wash, so I decided to give her a try. I ran two loads, one pictured here which are some of my darks and lights, and another load of towels that I washed in the 1-18 right before. I used the "4-corner loading" technique, and both came out spotless (the jeans that I had been wearing had some dirt stains on the legs, and the towels...WOW)...the cleaning ability of a Unimatic is phenomenal from what I've seen.

And do we close the lid while this one is running? Of course not!!! I like the slow, smooth, and quiet agitation (compared to the loud, fast, more aggressive agitation of the 1-18), and that 1140 RPM spin is incredible...I'm beginning to think it has a hypnotic effect to it. Very well-balanced too when you load it properly. And yes, I am starting to baby this machine...after I unplugged her and shut off the water, I covered her up with a large, clean quilt (so the Lifetime Porcelain stays Lifetime) that will be changed every week. Make sure your Frigidaire gets proper rest before washing the next day!

Here are the pictures! As you can see, the agitator does splash when the cap is off...just like any true Frigidaire! I plan to do a load of sheets tomorrow, and I'll post the results (hopefully no dreaded tangling...)! Maybe this will be a good reason to do a machine hookup in my room...

Enjoy!

Way to go buddy, another wonderful american classic saved and restored. would also like to see full view pix af this machine. I was about your age when I rebuilt my first washing machine, but it wasn't this old or rare. I wonder how many of these are still around. I'd love to have one. CONGRATS!

YAY for the wonders of Unimatics

Glad to see it arrived safe and sound Austin. Use it in good health for years to come.

WO65-2 WOWS this mom!

OY! At least it wasn't *my* underwear this time!

Austin washed a load of utility towels in the WO65-2 last night and was I impressed! It was extremely quiet during the wash cycle (yes, the lid was open) and that 1140 rpm spin will rip your arm off - YIKES! Austin was concerned that it would grab my hair (and I'm not exactly Rapunzel). Also, the towels were sooooooo dry after the final spin. I showed the mister, who couldn't believe they had just come out of the washer. Simply amazing! I may have to sneak in a load when u-no-who is in school. ;-)

Robert - you're the best!

rapidry spin/unimatic

I agree....the 1140 spin could rip your arm off. If interested, see my "earliest washer memory" on my info page here....and btw, the load of towels would dry in the matching dryer in 25 minutes....(and belated happpy birthday)

Amazing machine...

The cleaning ability of this machine (or any Unimatic) is SECOND TO NONE...I can hardly believe my own eyes!! I washed three more loads today, as follows:

I had a few dark shirts with strange "greasy" stains in them (probably food oil) that absolutely refused to wash out, and they were obvious enough to where I couldn't wear them. I pre-treated the stains with Spray & Wash, used the StainBrush to work it in, and washed them for 8 minutes in the WO-65-2 with Tide, Borax powder, and non-chlorine bleach powder. Two 1140 RPM Rapidries later, I pulled them out and couldn't see the stains. This happened before and they would usually reappear after drying. After I pulled them out of the dryer, I couldn't believe it. I saw NOTHING and can actually start wearing them again!

I also washed my sheets in the machine, dividing the tub into quarters. Everything went well, tangling no more than my other machines. Very fun too as they rolled over fast and the rinse water was "drinkably clear" during the overflow rinse.

The last load of the day was a large load of bath and dish towels (and 1 floor dust mop pad), which was probably a "full capacity" load. They rolled over well, were well-balanced during spin (although I did have to redistribute once...right Greg?), and everything came out very clean. I was surprised at how much it could really hold after washing this load...looks can be deceiving!!

Can you tell I'm having fun with the new Uni?? :)
