I just love this decade 80, It represents the last of the convertibles, I know its plastic but the motor is so powerful, when I first got it It had a type C bag on it and I kept looking at the writing on the outer bag and it said quick and clean bag change, when I changed the bag I discovered they were using type C bags, they just slid the type C bag over the tube and added a spring at the bottom of the tube.

Thanks spats, Your convertible is very nice too, I discovered Meguiars car cleaner wax works very well on plastic, with a little rubbing it took all the scuff marks off my hoover and gave it a nice shine.

Yeah, I plan on polishing up my convertible. There's another product I want to try, Novus Plastic Polish.

I do remember looking in the early 90s at Hoover convertibles in the Sears or Service Merchandise catalog. I remember seeing yours, and I remember seeing a blue one as well, that looked like an older styled convertible.

Wow, another rare "headlightless" Decade 80, and yours looks brand new as well!

One of the products I really like for my machines is Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish. You can find it at Wal-Mart I believe, and it's in a small can. Awesome stuff for getting rid of scuff marks on plastic and polished metal, works WONDERS. I did have to be careful around painted surfaces with it since it is a mild abrasive though.

spats, yours looks new, even the original cord and bag, it's funny you mention Service Merchandise, I couldn'd think of that name the other day, wanted to see if they had the new constellation, are they still in business? I know that last convertible you mentioned,it is kinda retro looking, someone on e-bay had one that had never been used but missing the bag,it sold for 400.00,they said it was from the 60's but you could see it was plastic. Austin, I almost bought some Mothers polish the other day at wal-mart to use on my kirby's, good to know it works on plastic too, I worked for a Kirby distributor from 79 to 83, we had a buffer that was mounted to a workbench, you had to be really carefull, sometimes the buffer would catch the edge and throw the kirby part across the room, I'm going to try some mothers and a drill attachment. I guess now that you mention it I havn't seen any decade 80's without a light. all the ones I've seen with lights have had the decals pretty scraped up. I like the chrome handle on those. Mark

Here is another version of your Decade 80...originally they were going to be "Convertibles" but later changed. This one is circa 1980. I do not think any other models of the Decade series were without headlights unless it was a commercial version. Great Hoover Find!!!
