Hey.. Well i just got myself a Hoovermatic.. My nan use to have one of these back when i was 7.. now im 19 lol but i love them.. I think the pump is starting to die :( it takes ages before the water comes out.. Does anyone know how much these can take at a load? I can only seem to put in 3 shirts MAX! that only 1/4 fills the spinner. lol is something wrong with my wash motor? and any tips on how to fix it? Make the pulsator turn faster? Ive uploaded a pic of my baby.. shes a T1288.. so it says on the back.. Thanks guys..

They have a very intense wash action so putting less in, such as 3 shirts, is better than putting more in....just move them to the spinner and then put some more things in to wash...

You'll get a real production line going with it when you get into the swing...

yeah, keep the loads light and you'll have great wash action, like they said you'll get into the swing once you start spinning and rinsing, check to make sure the belts are tight and the hoses are not blocked or kinked....those are fun machines, I used to have one as a spare for quick loads or to lend to someone when their machine broke down, better than running to the laundry or NO machine at all!....enjoy!

I think the wash load capacity is 6 pounds and the spinner is slightly less. Generally speaking, you should be able to fit a full wash load in the spin can. I always found that a full load was better than a part load as the turnover was steadier. The wash action can be quite rough. To overload is a mistake as it will literally scrub your clothes to bits, at least the ones in contact with the pulsator cos they won't have the chance to move around. Have fun, they are great machines and so fast that washing a weeks laundry is over in a flash!!!

Hoovermatic

These are great machines, and what every one else has said makes perfect sense, dont overload it, washing is so quick with this machine even though you wash small amounts (6LB max) as Hoovermatic says your washing will be done in a flash

Change the drive belts, make sure the spin pump is not seazing (common fault)......parts do come up on ebay for these

There is a vid of my 3334 on youtube, that had 4 t-shirts, 1 track pants and some boxer shorts in that load which I found to be a good load for this machine

Good luck I hope you enjoy this excellent machine

I agree with Hoovermatic. The spinner should be comfortably full. not 3 shirts! a typical load in my Hoover: 4 sweat shirts 2 pairs track pants some underwear and a few pairs socks and close the lid or else you know what.
Could be your pulsator housing. try turning it with your hand. it shouldn't feel stifff. if it is stiff then you will need to take it apart and give it a good service. usually does the trick!

Good luck!

p.s

Towels are just a dream to wash in the hoovermatic... they seem to thrive on bedding and towels more than anything else. a healthy Hoover can handle at least four med bath towels with a vigorous wash action.

Extractors In General

Including the Hoover spin basket do generally spin better and are more stable when fully loaded. This however means pushing items down into the basket to fit in a full load. Once that lot gets finished spinning at 2800 rpms for several minutes, you better using a tumble dryer, or be prepared to do major ironing.

For dress shirts I'd load the spinner loosely, and extract for only a minute or less, then rinse. No scratch that. Better to not spin between wash and rinses, then spin for a short time as final extract. Remove shirts from the basket and hang to drip dry.

Many of today's dress shirts day "do not spin" on the tag for a reason. Spin shirts too long and or too fast and you will end up with creases that may never come out, even with ironing.

Hoovermatic XD & Parts.

oh thanks for that guys.. i will be sure to check the pulsator movement and belts.. i did manage today to fix the pump. i think it had dirt in it or something i just kept flushing the wash tub and spinner with heaps of clean water and after 10 minutes of constant draining it was running again =D i do NOT want to get rid of this machine.

I do wish it had an Auto Rinse. XD. The spin can isnt rusted yet either.. i dont know what year this particular model was made in. (T1288). I did fit a double bed sheet in it today n it washed ok.. So yeah i will be sure to check the belts, and pulsator movement tommorow :))) Thanks guys.. also uploaded another pic.

i have the same model twin tub .
the t1288 (made in aussie) is a base model hoovermatic. they are very simple dont be afraid to pull the back off and have a look there is very little damage you can do.

Hey Hey

When I got my Hoovermatic it had a lagging wash action too, it used to get clogged up so easy.

All i did was buy a replacement wash belt of Ebay and put that on, now the washer side is good as new, turns over nice and fast.

You will soon figure out the loading of it. 4-5 t-shirts usually is a comfortable turnover but as I say you will figure it out :-)

On mine i need to look at the spinner as it makes a loud loooong squeaking noise unless I run hot water through it first, i think its the bearings.
