My LG is .... Sick

My LG front-loader (8yrs old) will not drain. It attempts to drain, but then can't progress through the cycle because it knows it still has too much water in it to spin. Any suggestions as to where to start??? I hate to put her on the curb ... she has been a trooper ... came through 2 feet of Katrina flood waters and never had a problem. My partner is starting to sweat; it looks like the 1-18 is getting ready to revisit the laundry room

Have you inspected the pump protector screen that keeps stuff from damaging the pump? It might be clogged.

the little trap door on the front bottom of the washer?  Get out the manual and follow the instructions as to how to open up the little hose clamp.  (Make sure you have a pan to catch the water when you do that).

Guys, thanks for your help. We are a multi-cat household and I think I got enough hair out of there to make another cat! Yuck. I guess this is reason #432 in the list of why I don't like front loaders .. no lint filter/removal. Will need to make it a point to pull that thing out frequently to clean it from now on. We pulled out the paperwork and its 9 years old ... I have gotten my money's worth on it. Partner is doing the happy dance because he doesn't like the 1-18. Again, thanks .. you guys are the best!

No, there is nothing wrong with front loaders.  It's simply doing the maintenance as you have discovered.

That last remark about a "collector" not being able to find it out on my own was just a nasty, pissy remark. I KNOW my vintage machines and you do not know me well enough for this. Its always best to keep your mouth shut and have folks think you're an ass then to open your mouth and prove it to everyone immediately. This type of arrogant, poorly educated remark is why I don't post on the site anymore. I will leave it to you, since YOU seem to know EVERYTHING.

Todd, the comment about not knowing what a 1/18i was, was not directed at you.  It was directed to the person who asked the question.  I" sorry if that was confusing iwith you.  My reply was particular to your situation, you have a matched 1/18 set in beautiful avocado green.  Ironically, there are a couple of threads dealing with 1-18s or 1/18s on the pink forum right now, that's why it kind of surprised me with the question from Jerrod of what was an 1-18?

No, I know you and you're not like that. The remark that I am referring to was the one that said: its amazing that "a collector" could not figure it out on his own. I mistakingly asked for help from the guys here, because this has been, for the most part, a group of great guys who support and help each other. I could have gotten that pissy remark on any site ... but did not expect it from a site that I have been a part of since 2002. Its time for me to back out of the team and let the boy with "the big balls" continue to bring his brand of sarcasm and negativity to the site, since he obviously knows "everything". I'm done. I'm sure even the best of collectors come across a problem that will leave him or her stumped. Life's all a learning experience, and even when you think you've got it all, you end up learning a lot more. And there's nothing wrong with learning something new even if it's everyday.

Hey tcox,

The "button catcher" is there so that any foreign objects may be easily removed to keep the pump from either failing or needing replacement. It is a good practice to check it every month espaecially if you have pets like dogs,cats,horses or a bear.lol. Not all front loaders have them and the Whirlpool's are not easily accessible.I check mine evry other week and have never had any serious issues other than my x room mate's metal bra strap.

well me the day my whirlpool duet breaks its going to be replace witch after a few years of use is the most logical action as its a 2004 model generation 1 so after 7 years of use if i start notcing anything wrong i will be replacing it by a huebsch top load washer with matching dryer

This is what I hate about my Duet...........

It doesn't have easy access to clean the drain pump and Whirlpool STILL has not addressed this! I have to take the panel off the front.........I have two cats and amazingly when I check it there's hardly ever anything it it. I check pockets religiously but some stuff has escaped me and gotten in before. Once I washed one of those mini flat head screw drivers.

me i think what do not help whirlpool is that with the generation 1 duet set i have is they need to make cleaning up the machine simpler because i also have pets and when i wash my pet 's bed in the washer my fear is i start a reg load and i get an error code saying thats something is stuck in the washer and cause the motor to burn and what would also help whirlpool would be that they change the desing of the duet and makes it easyer for mainantce on the washer for those that can do it themselves witch is not everyone that can do this
