A Dormeyer SILVER CREST...
only ever seen these in catalogs.
Michael and I went to Saugatuck Michigan this weekend, and this was found in an Antique store.
It runs ok, and will just be for display. It reminds me of a Sunbeam 12C!

Your Dormeyer

Hi:

VERY nice Dormeyer! I have a Dormey hand mixer in my own collection, and I grew up with a 5100.

My guess on age is late 1950's (like '59) or early 1960s. Dormeyer messed around with its styling a WHOLE lot, and it's not uncommon to see a mixer that has say, the '57 styling, but with the '55 handle. One of my collector friends swears that they just used whatever they happened to have at the moment, so long as it fit.

Your unit is definitely later than the 5100 series, which was 1957 or so, and it appears earlier than other known 1960s Silver Crests I've seen, because of the little slide-up door on the front of the mixer head for the power takeoff, which is a carryover from the 5100. The reason it has a slide control instead of a dial like Sunbeam is that the Sunbeam control (called the Mixfinder Dial) was patented. Nobody else could use quite that same arrangement, though certain Dormeyers- like yours- have their tail ends styled so that the slide control area sort of LOOKS like there's a Mixfinder Dial back there.

Anyway, cool unit.

Hey great find Jeff! I also LOVE your vintage Osterizer blender! I have one myself. congrats!

Thanks Shane,

The Osterizer is a Cyclo-Matic from the early 70's I am guessing, and my favorite style and model from Oster. I love the automatic cycle on/off feature, I have better luck chopping with it than I would by hand or another blender where I would manually have to pulse it on or off.
Its got a 1000 watt motor too, huge for a blender!
I use it quite a bit, mainly for making protein shakes after the gym, but it also chops veggies for spaghetti sauce, makes dip, salad dressing, frosting, ect...

I found the Dormeyer mixer in the 1966 Bennett Brothers catalog for $60. The Silver Crest was not the TOL machine, that was the Silver Star, same looks but with a governor controlled motor.
Still a neat mixer, and I really like the look of it.
Thanks for all the info!

Very nice find Jeff! I just love vintage stand mixers all though I must admit I do not have a Dormeyer mixer, only Sunbeams, HB, KA and GE.

Very nice picture of you and your friend Jon as well.

Beautiful mixer Jeff, I think it is time for you to whip up something special with it just to see how it works. I am guessing early to mid 60's as well.

Yes Jeff, you will have to tell us what Michael is referring to. I think I know you better than that! LOL

Michael, enjoy your new pieces! Those are nice mixers, and that blender is from when they were really making them well.

Jeff I see you have the Oster "on the go" sippy cup.. Bring that blender forward and take a better pic, I don't think I've seen that model. Course it's near impossible to see every model they pumped out.

Michael just think of all the good things you can whip up with those!! Looking forward to seeing you in Tucson. Terry
