My Maytag A806 Won’t Shift to Gentle

My A806 refuses to shift into gentle agitation and spin speed, even when the selector buttons are pressed. Is it a switch thing that needs repair/replacing? The regular speed works fine. Any advice is welcome!

It could be the selector switch or the low speed winding on the motor is burnt out.

Does the motor carry on in the regular agitation/spin speeds or does nothing happen when the gentle speeds are selected?

Yes, the motor still works but only in normal speed despite what speed is selected. The motor just doesn’t shift to slow speed.

Need a new 2 speed motor.

May want to check the wiring to the start switch and verify everything is connected, terminals are snugly fitted, and no corrosion or broken wires/terminals. If this checks out....

 

Take one of your spare 2 speed motors, cradle it on a poofy folded blanket next the original motor (front panel removed, of course), and transfer the wires to the start switch. Advance the the timer to spin and shift the speeds back and forth and see if the problem is fixed. The motor will abruptly jump in the air from the initial starting torque, that's the purpose of the blanket.
