My Maytags" Birthdate

I know this has been discussed in the past, but I forgot how one determines the manufacture date based on the letters at the end of the appliance's serial number. Can someone help?

My A806 serial number ends in OM, the DE806 ends in KW.

Are you sure it's an "O"? According to my charts, Maytag never used "O" in the dating codes (I assume because it looks too much like a zero). My guess is that it's a "Q". In that case your washer was "born" in June of 1972 and your dryer is from October of 1970.

My A-308 ends with AX

My A-308 washer that i bought used in 1986 and still use ends in AX.

There is no X on the list for the 1966 thru 2013 . and mine is an AX.

It's possible i misread it but i don't think so.

2packs you are correct. December of 1978 would be a very credible production date for an A308. I think the 08 series washers superceded the 06 & 07 models in either 1976 or 1977 and were produced until 1980.

Did Maytag use the same letter codes for dishwashers? Mine has 8 digits, followed by two letters.
Seems likely, but that puts it at 97, newer than I expected.

I just picked up 2 similar maytag wringer washer machines... trying to date them...to repair them... to use them. the serial numbers charts just boggle my mind.

the first one is 35177XP

the second one is J108561

I am trying to find owner, parts, repair manuals but I can't until I know what year...I do believe they are both E2 machines.

The "XP" in the "35177XP" serial number should be read as "1965 August".

The "J108561" serial number does not seem to match the typical configuration (maybe someone else has seen this configuration?)

the identified 1965 one, would be an E2L? model... there is NOT a drain pump, but rather gravity drain. I also do not have the "foot pedal" safety switch... how would I identify if it had one, OR needs one?

Also, where is the best place to download the Owner/repair/service manual from?

The one I find here is 56 pages, BUT dates back to 1957...

The one I find on daves repair . com is 44 pages, and revised in 1979.

I have downloaded the free pieces from cottage craft works . com... I does show some of the gear box tear down, but NOTHING about gear/lube etc...

Attached are pictures of how I found them on the farm... which is why I want to complete tear down/service them

Its Alive...

Well, one had a motor, and the agitator...tinkered with that one... found out motor windings are toast. bought replacement motor, it works... definitely need to get a service manual to tear into it & maintain it. Change out the gear oil, etc... make some adjustments? Can anyone point me in the right direction for service manual?

Also top roller is partially split... anybody repair their roller, besides just replacing it?
