I make New Year's resolutions, most of them I keep, too - it frustrates the trick-cyclists no end.

Last year, I read about a neat idea: A motto of the year. Am trying it.

Here's mine for 2008, hope other folks have some to add they're thinking about:

"Having resentment is like taking poison and waiting for the other person to die" -- Malachy McCourt

Reminds me of a book I read

"The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz

Excellent book, and while I am not much for new age fluff stuff, this book made me stop to think about some stuff.

Very good words Panthera, I like them alot!

I like that quote from panthera...

Here is another one, I have posted in my office, and have to read about 10 times a day....
I guess you could say, it's my mantra for 2008...

"The true sign of a person's character is how well they treat other people who can be of no possible benefit to them".

I like the one that came out years....decades ago...
If you love something, set it free....if it comes back to you, it's yours, if it doesn't hunt it down and kill it.

Wished it was that easy. LOL

Epectetus says:

"The belief that one should 'fight back' to prove the other person wrong only gives more power to the offender. ... because the first person reacts to the second person, the latter has power over the former. One is thus enslaved by his or her own reactions."

It's proven solid advice to us in the past (not that we've always heeded it!!!)!

Motto for the Home

I have a name for my home. I live in a late 18th century house in middle Georgia. I have named my home and also carry as my Motto "Peace and Plenty".

I wish upon all who come into my home to enjoy a peaceful atmosphere and experience a relaxed and easy experience. I also wish that anybody who comes to my home finds plenty of everything they need (or have want of). A full table will be found, good conversation, good friends, safe haven, excellent wines and food.

I also exercise the experience outside the home and follow the Golden Rule. If people had good manners there would be no need for "political correctness".

Good Manners speak for themselves.

Lets all enjoy a Good and Grand New Year!

I got one for youse all too

It is called the Eternal Law of Life and goes like this:

What you think and feel you bring into form,
where your thoughts are there are you also,
for you are consciousness,
and what you meditate on you become.

Don't know who wrote that - could be Confucian (or confusion ;o) brought on during a trip). I quite like it though. Does that mean that if I constantly think about washing machines I will become one? O_o

No, but your agitator may become more powerful, coveted and atractive.

TAROT:

All things begin with a thought. (suit of cups)
Thoughts become emotions (suit of wands)
Emotions become actions (suit of swords)
Actions become manifestations (suit of coins)

Modern playing cards are derived fom the above four suits.
clubs=> from wands
hearts=> from cups
spades=> from swords
diamonds=> from coins

BASICALLY YOU ARE WHAT YOU THINK YOU ARE and life is what you think it is. Change you thougghts and you change your life.

Even medicine has come to realize that positive thougths and belief in healing plays a role in healing.

My new favorite is something of a warning:

"A friend is a friend, but a pound is a pound, and things can get awful heavy".

The basic idea behind this: Friendships are for the long haul. Don't offer your hand as a friend unless you know you can help someone else carry the weight--EVEN if you must cut off your own nose to spite your own face. Been there, done that. No regrets.
