My new Beaumark Rim-Flo washer and Hotpoint dryer

Hi I’m new here but I’ve snooped this place periodically over the years. Long story short my wife and I just moved into a new house and I picked up, for the grand sum of $50 Canadian, a Beaumark(store brand of Hudson’s Bay department store) washer and Hotpoint electric dryer. The washer looks like it’s probably late 70’s or very early 80’s? Can’t say for sure. Dryer, Hotpoint HD854LW429, might be slightly newer but I can’t find much info. These were both made by GE/Camco in a factory maybe an hour or so from where I live. I can’t find a model number anywhere on the washer.

Anyway. I got them cleaned up and they both live. The washer is awesome. No rust and everything works properly. Rim Flo action works well. The dryer - works fine on time dry, but overheats when run on auto cycle. Didn’t have time to diagnose but I did open it up and clean out the lint. Would like to regrease the main bearing eventually but it’s fine for now. I assume there is an issue with the moisture sensor or something causing the heating elements to not cycle off during auto dry cycle.

I am a journeyman electrician and used to own a laundromat so I enjoy the troubleshooting and repair aspect of owning old laundry equipment, plus, an old top is the best for cleaning my work clothes. Some of the places I go to, you do not want to touch too many surfaces and your clothes go straight in the wash after work. Anyway here’s some pictures. Wonder if anyone here knows the approximate vintage of the washer.

Love the name Beaumark! It looks like a Hotpoint rebadged?? But that lid looks like Westinghouse to me. Not sure, maybe Nanook of Quebec -- HEY TURQUOISEDUDE -- can YOU tell us the pedigree?

The washer reminds me of the Penncrest products, built by Hotpoint.  In the early years of the transition from Taylor Street to Appliance Park, the Hotpoint washers used this side-opening lid.  By about 1973 they were using the standard GE lid.  Very cool washer!

 

On the US products, the ID badge/plate was located on the left side, bottom, at the front.

Beaumark became the Bay's 'house brand' in 1979 when Simpsons and the Bay merged - the machines were built by Camco, the Candian licenscee for GE.  They built Canadian Hotpoint, McClary, and Moffat appliances as well as for two major store brands - Viking (Eaton's) and Beaumark (Simpson's & The Bay).

 

I remember seeing lots of these Beaumark washers - the styling didn't really change much from the early to mid 1980s; your washer is from that era for sure.

washer is from the 90's...last of the mill before the complete redesign....

you can tell that by the extension cap on the agitator, this is an ExLarge capacity machine, using a Large capacity transmission and agitator for all machines at that time, one size for both, cap added to increase size......at least thats what GE did here in the states

still a cool machine none the less....

note too, this agitator is held down with a bolt in the center.....it will not simply pull off...

Looks like my Amana...with the same filtering system that I’m still not convinced is all that effective.
