Hi Guys
Just sharing my new baby i got today. About a week or so again i had a minor car accident when someone slammed into the back of me at a traffic light. We were in a filter lane and the light for the straight ahead road went green, i believe the guy behind thought it was the light for us to go and started moving, right into my behind. The guys at the mechanics pretty much wrote my car off because of the damage to the rear, he was driving quite a large vehicle and my little car crumpled quite easily. I'm not hurt but it didn't help my scar from my surgery.
Anyway, long story short, got the insurance thing sorted out blah blah, took out a loan, got some contributions from random family members and finally got my dream car, its gonna be a long hard slog paying this baby off but I'm not bothered. Its a Honda CRV Sport 4WD, it was my choice because i love the styling of the 2007 models. I got it in Silver but i was going to go for Gold but the interior on the gold color is cream whereas i prefer dark interior. It has loads and loads of new cool features such as dual temperature control meaning your passenger can be blasted with icy cold air and you as the driver can be blasted with warm air, thats rather cool. It has an interesting park brake, its not a pull lever, its a pedal similar to your brake, you just tap it and it comes on or off. Sensor wipers so when it senses water hitting the screen it will start the wipers.
Anyway, see what u think, its cooooool.

it's all about 220!

CONGRATS!

Interesting to see the control on the other side.
cool carport with a door as well!

I'll tell ya went to London in the wee hours and got into a taxi-cab tired and jet-lagged. It is QUITE the experience to be on the other side of the road in a taxi, no less.

TE HE HE HE the speedometer in KM/h looks funny to me!

very nice Matt!

I think my next car will be a Honda too, probably an Accord.

It still freaks me out to see the steering wheel on the opposite side!

CRV

I had a CRV in 2000 and it was a great car. I upgraded to a Odyssey when I had another child. My Odyssey has over 102,000 miles on it and it runs perfect. We are taking it on vacation to North Carolina next week! We also have a Chrysler Pacifica which is nice as well.

My SIL had a CRV that she drove to 175,000+ miles with no major issues. It was still running great. She sold it to get a Honda FIT since she travels for work and it gets much better gas milage than the CRV. My in laws have a mid 80's Honda Accors Wagon with about 70,000 miles on it and it's great too! We are a Honda family. :-)

CONGRATS!!!! It's a great car and I am sure that you will LOVE it! Honda makes a great, long lasting vehicle.

It looks like a wonderful car. I'm thinking on one or a Toyota as my next car.. everyone in the family who's had them loves em and I don't need a bigger car anymore now I'm retired just for puttering round town.
Do you think it's ever gonna rain there so you use those rain sensing wipers? I'll bet you've already tried it with the garden hose haven't ya!!!!

Our family and honda

My sister has had 6 hondas, 2 fell apart, 1 just broke and never got fixed. She has a 93 Del Sol with 193K as a play toy and loves it, hasn't ever broke... She had a 1994 Integra which se loved, traded that for a 1998 Accord, which was ok for what it was but the check engine came on and stayed on at 42K so she traded it becasue honda couldn't figure it out.. She traded that for a 2001 Odysseyy and my go was that a mess.. In 72k miles she whent through:
4 Transmissons (8K, 28K, 30K, and 71K)
3 sets of brakes (15K, 40K and 70K)
The folding seat broke 7 times
The power side sliding doors never did work right, would open while driving if they felt like it
The Check engine light came on 3 times resulting in 3 major repairs of the emissons system
and the final straw when the extended warranty company replaced it with an 04 Odyssey..
The 5th transmisson 1K later, also the rear main seal was leaking on the engine

Her 04 odyssey was a little better, but not by much.. It too has seen a transmisson @ 60K, the folding seat in it folded up on my nephew resulting in a call to the fire department, the lf side power door broke, the dvd player skipped over bumps and the screen never would stay fully closed, the engine had a small tick in it from new, and there have been tons of rattles and such.. She finally got rid of it when the check engine light came on at 70K and it started acting funny..SHe bought a 4-runner.. No folding seats or dvd players.., Been 12K with no issues

Her ex husband had an 03 Acura MDX and it too has had major transmisson issues and also the engine blew @134K.. Because he did not change the oil every 5k, rather every 7500 like the book said.. She babbied those cars and they still fell apart.. Honda refused to fix them after warranty, thankfully she had an extended warranty and the honda dealer she used was nice.. But when she moved the honda place was a bunch of sharks

All of this is common with honda dealers and hondas..They think because they have such a good car (which some are) they can charge ful price and be mean to customers.. Our honda dealers here refused to let us test drive a fit unless we gave them our promise to buy on.. We had to drive 150 miles to drive one.. Plus they are sharks in every meaning of the word...

I wouldn't mind having an older honda, but a new one is just too much a risk.. IF you go by the honda dealer here you see rows and rows and rows of newer hondas in there garage having major repairs done

They are nice cars, but i think Hyundai and Toyota and Subaru outshine them customer service wise and quality wise.. My step dad has an 01 Elantra with very few issues @ 200K.. My sisters current husband ahs an 06 Sonata as his work car with 75K and NO problems.. We have an 07 Accent we love..

Ok now that i have hijacked matty thread.. I do hope for mattys sake that honda customer service in australia is better than here and it will last you many miles

I remember when Honda started importing auto's to the US in the very early 70's. We kind of laughed at them for being a "bucket of bolts".
Look who ended up having the last laugh! Honda has definitely replaced Volkswagen as the import leader years ago.
Today Honda has a almost cult like following. While we have never had one (I ALMOST bought a CRV instead of my Mazda Tribute) we wouldn't hesitate to buy one if the occasion arose. (Sorry Exploder, I don't know what happened to your families cars)
I have also heard that while they are pretty reliable, they soak you when it comes to repairs.
When we were looking at the CRV, the local Honda dealer was pretty nice, until I asked to test drive one. Then he got pretty testy about how they are not in the business of providing loaner cars. (??) I drove it, started dickering with the price and he said that Honda prices are not negotiable, everyone pays sticker price. We walked. But the salesperson kept calling me every few days later wanting to know if we were going to buy the car we test drove. I told him that I was going to buy a Mazda, at least they were willing to deal. And I feel I got a great deal on that car!

I like my Honda

I have a 2005 Civic EX coupe—just your standard-issue Honda Civic. I like it very much. It has a very nice driving feel, more than adequate power, one of the smoothest shifters I've ever used, a comfortable and well-finished interior, and good fuel economy. I think it's a very well-put-together car. I paid about $1500 less than sticker price new, and the dealer was very easy to work with. After 2.25 years and 45,000+ miles, it hasn’t needed any repairs. I can’t speak about long-term reliability yet, so we shall see. So far, it’s all positive.

Congrats on your CRV, matty.

The New Car

That's a really good looking new car, Matty. At least your accident had a happier ending. I was in a head on a year ago June, every bone in my right leg broken. I'm pretty much recovered from that, and my brother sold me my "new" car this June. It is a 2000 Nissan XTerra, 82,000 plus, and in super shape. I love it, it is the exact opposite of the kind of vehicles I usually get.

thanks guys,
in response to some of your questions, the shifter mounted on the dash is very weird to get used to, my hand does go automatically to the 'right' place, the same goes for the park brake, i instantly go to pull it up but remember i only have to tap a pedal now.
Luckily its been torrential raining over here for the past week so the rain sensing wipers have definitely been used to their full potential lol.
All in all, its a great car so far, lots of place for storage in the back, all the back seats fold down so u have a lot of space. I chose this car because i do a lot of country driving down south in open bush sometimes and i needed a nice big car with space for camping equipment and good headlights etc...

Congrats on your new Honda...I have had my Accord for a little over a year now and it has 10,000 miles on it. I have only had it in for 3 oil changes. That is it! I have owned three brand spanking new GM cars in the last 12 years and had nothing but trouble. This is the first car I have ever owned in my life that has just started and got me there without a bunch of stuff falling off. I cannot believe that I have not had brake trouble, computer trouble, or panels that have threatened to fall off. My wife has 30,000 miles on her Honda Element and she has only had to have oil changes and a cracked windshield had to be replaced. She is hard on a vehicle driving them fast and stopping fast too. I just want to know...when will these cars break down....I am waiting and waiting and waiting...all of this plus 30+ miles to the gallon and a good dealer who did dicker on the price. We got great deals on both cars. Heck, I paid more for my GM cars WITH rebates and got lots less especially at resale time. So Matty, enjoy that cool Honda...our Element has the same shifter as your CRV and we love it!

Matty, I'm really sorry about your accident, glad you're ok, and hope you enjoy your new car! I didn't know Oz used the British model right hand drive.

Those gear selectors on the panel seem to be becoming more and more prevalent. My mom hated having them on the floor on their later Toyotas after a lifetime of driving cars with column mounted selectors, declaring that, particularly if she had a passenger, there was no place to put her purse!

I love your Honda CR-V, very stylish! Like this model better than it's predecessors!

Was this model expensive? I know Hondas cost a bit more than some other brands I can think of.

Hope you have a great driving and owning it!
