Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I think there are two solenoids on the heater circuit of my LK dryer, I wonder if it modulates the heater like that as well? I haven't had it installed for a while, I'll see if I can find the pictures of the schematic & diagrams again.

Is this a timer on the WP model or a selector knob? Presuming one is a start-button on the top of the panel, what is the other button? I thought it might be a Damp-Dry selection like my LK has if the systems were similar. It seems strange that they would have been very different from one another (KM & WP) but this would fit with their history - Kenmore got all the fun goodies.

Graham, we need more pictures! :-)

AUTO DRY SYSTEM

Hi Grey your 1960 LKM dryer only has one heating element for 30 AMP operation, there is a second for use on 50 AMP circuits but that doesn't have anything to do with the auto dry cycle. WP actually had the same great dry control system as KM for once on these TOL models, it was just quite different on the modulating heat models which didn't come out until around 1962-3.

Aferim!

When I see Whirlpool models like this, not only can I see how many of the Lady Kenmores were generated from this elegant ancestor, but it makes me wonder why the designers at Whirlpool settled later on those clunky squat control panels that lasted for 30 years. These were nifty and nuanced.

Might we see what's under the lid?

If I am not mistaken, WP dryers of this age would still have a timed cycle for wash'n wear so that the user would be there when the dryer stopped to rescue clothes before they wrinkled.  I never fully appreciated how great a convenience the "wrinkle guard" or extended care feature was while my machines were on the main floor of my house, but once I had a basement, I really came to appreciate it.  Of course, the 806 starts ringing its chime once it starts into cooldown and that is helpful but I have not really used it much in years.  It's now back in service and delivered non-tangled, non-rolled and perfectly dried sheets last weekend.
