MY NEW O&M STOVE ;)

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Just did a quick clean on the outside. There was a rack that feel inside but have no idea where it came from, think it might be in the broiler? the salt and pepper shakers are plastic and could see a black stopper inside each..?

I noticed a yellowish look in spots on the folding cover, used my nail and appears to be a thin film like tape? could peal a bit. I was worried the top might have been painted but not so it seems. This stove hasn't had a good cleaning in many years. Theres no adjustable feet on the 4 corners just a hole, maybe with all that weight it might be better not to have those?

Main thing after cleaning is making room in kitchen and if i'm going to keep the Kenmore in there also for a time?

Anyone know if there was a cover for the griddle if the folding cover was up. Maybe an option? I think I would want something there like a cutting board just to set things on? Could use a sheet of Stainless maybe...

The stove looks pretty nice even though it has been sitting and needs cleaning.

I've never seen a cover for a griddle on either O & M or Wedgewoods of this vintage.  I'm pretty sure there's a standing pilot under them, so the surface can be fairly warm to the touch.

Not sure if stoves from this period ever had adjustable feet.

It sounds like the stoppers were pushed inside the salt & pepper shakers.  Have fun extracting those . . .

Thanks Ralph, the stove has been in contious use in the same house i got it from if i remember right seeing it there years ago with an other owner, think maybe 20 years or more, might have been stored before that but don't know, good point to ask the neighbor. someone sprayed flat black paint on a couple places on its back like the oven vent duct but left a exposed white paint stamp maybe 1" round that I cant read, no other markings, havent looked on the bottom yet. I'm very impressed with the construction and compared to the Kenmore I have theres no comparison, well maybe like a Pinto to a Cadillac.:)

Anyone know if the walls of the oven are insulated, i assume they are, if so i cant use much water cleaning, maybe just spray and wipe. I'll just do it the hard way to be sure i dont soak insulation and create rust.

I now think that film on the shelf cover may have been to protect porcelian when its in the shelf position. might have been a peal and stick shelf vinyl? I didn't notice any scratches in the porcelian, pretty good shape.

Now is there a way to figure its year of mfg.???

Bill, those stoves kept the same basic design for a number of years.  If you can find a model number, you may be able to find information on line.

I don't know what that film is on the shelf.  Maybe a previous owner applied it.  Might be more trouble than it's worth to remove it.

I'm certain the oven walls are insulated.  Even a mid '30s Wedgewood I had for a while was fully insulated.

If i cant remove the film with lacquer thinner i can remove it with a new razor blade for sure. Next two days we might get rain so double covered it, dont trust those cheap blue tarps. Hate leaving it outside but have no choice for a few weeks...

Looks like the same model O&M that I have been using daily since 2004. I didn't touch the insulation in mine - it was fine. My clock has never worked. You can probably find the clock knob on ebay. There are a couple of sellers who list a lot of O&M parts, especially grapevinesally. Unless someone removed it, the ID tag should be mounted to the inside of the storage/service door. All of the painted-on writing on mine is gone, looks like someone used oven cleaner on it. The model number is stamped into the ID tag. Mine is Model 425-1.

Love your jukebox avatar.

Thanks Dave I like the jukebox cause of its wood & curved glass, I think it looks better inside without lots of chrome.

Made a note of the ebay seller. Going through a wet cycle here so when its dry will check for model now that i know where to look. The only thing i'm worried about is the safety starter, the po said it would lite as long as held in? Its just hanging there now. I thought the most common thing to go bad on an oven was the thermocouple? Hate to pay 200 for a rebuilt unit if needed. Think I saw a cover plate being sold to do away with the safety switch feature or can just turn off gas to oven and even grid as i never use either on my Kenmore? I used to use the oven sometimes for painted car motor parts:)
