My new (to me) Maytag Commander and "warsh" day

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

HI all. Today was the first time that I have used the Maytag Commander(sq.porcelein tub)wringer washer. I started at 11 and was finished with 7 loads of clothes by 1:15, including filling and emptying the washer and clean up. What fun!. The machine hasn't been used since 1973 and I can't believe how quiet it is. The companionable clunk-clunk of the transmission is all that was heard. Tide and washing soda went in as the washer filled. Suds cake big time!. lol load 1- Sheets, undewear,2 shirts,3slacks and socks, 4towels,5 blue jeans,6 outside work and paint clothes,7Fred's bed. I changed the rinse water several times and for the white towel's last rinse, bluing in the water. As the loads were washing, rinsing and hanging outside of most of the loads took place; the shirts and slacks ending up in the Maytag dryer. The sheets dried fast on the line today and are now back on the bed. I have enough wringer machines to do a wringer wash in? Have fun. Gary

Did you rinse in set tubs? I wring the clothes into a basket after the wash then throw them in one of the top loaders for a spin, deep rinse and final spin. My Commander is old enough to have the red Bakelite Gyrator.

Washer joke:

What did the Communist Party and Maytag have in common in the late '40s? Thousands of red agitators.

My Commander has a red agitator too. I love the joke by the way! I have a set of new built-in tubs that I installed a couple of years back. Sure is nice to just pull the plug and out goes the water. I do have 3 sets of older tubs on stands that I don't use. My house was built in 1897 before washing as we know it took place. The drain is at the opposite side of the room where the tubs and water are. I did wring my shirts and slacks out and then put them in the automatic (Kitchen Aide) so that it would take less time in the dryer with those items. Happy wringing. Gary
