My new wringer washer!

Hi! I am new to this community, but I already love it. Today I acquired a Kenmore wringer washer from the '50s, I think. Everything is great about it, besides the missing lid. I have the model number and serial number, but I cannot find any information on this washer. I would like to know when it was made and if there are any owner's manuals out there for it. Does anyone have some advice or can anyone point me in the right direction? I appreciate it!!!

to the club! I have a Maytag wringer, so cant tell you much about your Kenmore, but hang in there someone here knows all about it, and I'm sure will help you out with what you need to know, and where to get a lid! ( it's out there) Can you post a pic of the machine? That might help. Stan

IINM the first two digits of the serial is the year.

I had a pet wringer when I was a kid, a Thor 'magic fingers'. Wish grandma had left that and her Easy and Ironrite to me but she wasn't a collector.

I would keep an eye out on E-bay...

...they have photofacts and owners manuals by the zillion there. That's how I found the manual for my Maytag wringer. The lid's not as big a deal where it doesn't affect operation....you could always cut one from plywood to keep everything clean between washings.

Or you could do what so many here do: have one cut from plexiglass (Lucite) with a thumb hole hear the edge for lifting it. You might even find material to make a gasket for the edge. That way you could watch what's going on, rest your beverage on it (with coaster to prevent scratching), keep the heat in the wash water (which was always my mother's greatest concern when using a wringer or sudsaver washer) and maybe draw up a bar stool so you can be more relaxed and just enjoy the hell out of washing in it.

Welcome to another wringer member.

Look at the model number on the back of the machine near the wringer column. It will start with 110. Then we will be able to give you the year it was built. A few of us have Kenmore wringers, and indeed enjoy the hell out of them. Does yours have an open chrome wringer? It could be a Lady Kenmore you're keeping company with.

 

OOPS: I see you have located the numbers. Give them to us. I can give you the year; more gifted members can tell you the month of manufacture.

Jon, I was thinking of coffee, tea, cocoa or something really celebratory like a float or hot fudge sundae, depending on the weather and time of day, something comforting and soothing, but not anesthetizing. Mom used to make me purple cows with vanilla ice cream and real grape juice, not soda because I don't like carbonation. I loved the Varsity's Frosted Oranges or FOs and used to make them in my blender at home with Tang.
